Renault Scenic (1999 - 2003) - 02 1.9 dci power loss and black smoke 3 Aug 2008 (Forum)
i crused home at 70 all the way. to be honest i have driven her like it for now a month but i live in cornwall and the gouing up hill thing is driving me crazy. Last week renault told me power loss could be the EGR valve, So i bought one and changed it,whilst in the process of changing i saw that the hose from the mass air flow sensor had a hole so i bought a new one as well, just to be sure OK to the point, after changing the EGR and air pipe there is no difference and my car will still not go up hills ?? -
Audi A4 - A starter from me! 28 Dec 2012 (Forum)
For anoraks, its the AEB engine, the strongest of them all, with the big valves, external waterpump and cable throttle. Miles achieved through 6k or 6month oil changes with fully synth oil, warming up and warming down with the occasional thrashing and top speed autobahning. It will still do 140mph when needed. However in the real world, the UK, it averages 37mpg. -
vw golf mk4 1.9 gttdi 130 - golf gt tdi 130 flat spot 16 Oct 2011 (Forum)
Could it be a blocked breather and if so which ones? Would the MAF cause these sort of problems or even the air filter as I did an oil and filter change recently but not the air filter as on inspection it seemed not too bad? I'd also like to ad that my drive is very steep and I usually park nose up as I don't want to kill the DMF constantly reversing up it. -
Reconditioned engine disaster 19 Apr 2007 (Forum)
There was a 12 month warranty subject to several provisions including that a new water pump and thermostat must be fitted and the radiator to be checked by the fitting garage. An oil change after 1000 miles and too many more to mention. It looked pristine on collection wrapped in a kind of Clingfilm. The local independent who has a good reputation fitted the engine adhering to all conditions. -
Subaru Impreza 2.0 - performance flatspot 21 Sep 2016 (Forum)
i have tried to reset the ecu, but it will work better just for about 2 days and then go back again to working horribly. i have been to 5 mechanics . they said the changing of the rims will not cause that, just coincidence. i have changed new fuel filter with regulator. also the fuel pump. we put a gauge to check the psi of the pump and it held up fine- no problems.serviced the air filter. i changed the knock sensor. i replaced the air flow sensor. i serviced the injectors and throttle body four times at different mechanics. i changed the timing belt and tension-er and pulleys - . i changed the engine and transmission oils. i changed the spark plugs. sometimes on the highway the 4th gear will take long to go in and when i try to kick down, it will not and the same gear will run. the 1st and second gear will sometimes go in with a hard buck. -
subaru impreza 2006 2.0 R - subaru impreza 2006 2.0R engine PROBLEMS !! 19 Sep 2016 (Forum)
hi, i have a 2006 impreza 2.0 r engine . i bought the car from the previous owner in may 2015. for 1 month the car worked well. as soon as you touch the gas pedal it will shoot off, acceleration great and top speed about 190 km. as soon as i changed the rim and tyres it died. it had 16's and i put 17's, but the manual said i can make that change. it started to flat spot bad and go dead. it will crawl up small hills gas pedal to board. on flat roads as well, flat spot, dead, no acceleration. then suddenly it will take off again with a spurt but will soon die down again. on the highway 3rd and 4th gears no problems. it will fly. but it never worked again as it did the first month.i have tried to reset the ecu, but it will work better just for about 2 days and then go back again to working horribly. i have been to 5 mechanics . they said the changing of the rims will not cause that, just coincidence. i have changed new fuel filter with regulator. also the fuel pump. we put a gauge to check the psi of the pump and it held up fine- no problems.serviced the air filter. i changed the knock sensor. i replaced the air flow sensor. i serviced the injectors and throttle body four times at different mechanics. i changed the timing belt and tension-er and pulleys - . i changed the engine and transmission oils. i changed the spark plugs. sometimes on the highway the 4th gear will take long to go in and when i try to kick down, it will not and the same gear will run. the 1st and second gear will sometimes go in with a hard buck.when i apply brakes to stop, while slowing down i can feel the hard buck from the engine or there abouts as the car comes to a stop.i scanned the car at 6 mechanics! -
Fords - Warning dont buy off xxxx 3 Oct 2013 (Forum)
Goes home on foot finding turbos for this kkda engine around £450 I'm not happy. First thing I check is my service history. Apparently the car was supposed to have had a full oil and oil filter change. I phone my pal and ask him to check the oil which he says is bone dry now I'm thinking how as a car ptyed it's oil in 3 months 2000 miles impossible. I do abit of nose poking and find out my uncle noes a guy who works for this jay lawley garage and he described xxxx as dodgey. -
Ford Focus - leak after cambelt/water pump change 1 Jul 2019 (Forum)
I do not know, can't see, if it is the water pump spraying out water of if the reservoir itself is leaking. All I know is before I took the car in for a cam-belt and water pump change there was no leak in over six years I've owned it and after the change there is now a leak. Any ideas as to what could be the culprit? What are my entitlements for repair? (simply put they have caused this). -
Honda CR-V III (2007 - ) - Clunky gear change - Honda admits problem? 17 Sep 2017 (Forum)
I understand from the thread that they have developed a fix for the petrol models but, as of the beginning of the month (July 2009), were saying that a fix was about 6 weeks away for the diesel models. In the meantime, it appears numerous CRV owners have taken their cars back for oil changes, linkage changes, etc, but to no joy. http://www.crvownersclub.com/forums/showthread.php?p=51780 Anyhow, I need to take my car into my local Honda dealer this week - I assume I need to do this to make them aware of the fact now even though, according to the above link, there is now fix yet. -
Alternative energy not viable for decade 16 Dec 2006 (Forum)
Despite supply concerns, the company added that it foresees few problems bringing more oil and gas to market, and that the current price of oil is actually higher than it needs to be to bring oil to market. America's largest firms pledge to go green In a presentation to analysts, Jaime Spellings said that worldwide economic growth is expected to outpace Exxon's projected energy demands. -
Audi A5 - Faulty car not being repaired 2 Apr 2014 (Forum)
At this stage i still have the car unfixed and the dealer keeps changing his mind about the repair. He is now refusing to get the car repaired. I had enough going through the dealer and started a claim under section 75 through my bank. -

Vauxhall Vectra B facelift (1999 - 2002) - 98, 16v X20EV petrol auto. Shudder on idle. 12 Oct 2008 (Forum)
What I've done: cleaned throttle body, breathers into throttle body, front pipe breathers, camshaft cover ducts/breathers, checked for vac hose splits from air intake etc, cleaned idle control valve and even bought a new one too, checked egr valve and even blanked it to see if iany difference (now unblanked), new air filter, new fuel filter, new oil and oil filter. Diagnostics said cam sensor gone (which it was, revving was limited to 4500 rpm) - new cam sensor fitted. Still no difference. All I can note is that during the rough idle the idle valve voltage keeps going up and down between 9 v and 13 v continually cycling and the engine changes with this cycling. -
Focus 115 TDCi 9 Mar 2005 (Forum)
Does anyone here have experience of these problems with the focus and the 115 1.8 TDCi engine?? By the way the car has only done 35,500 miles is main dealer serviced and I change the oil and filter with approved Ford items in between the 12500 mile service intervals just as I feel the that the oil is just too dirty at 6000 miles. The car is a September 2002 built model. Any TSB's etc would be appreciated. -
Diesel on road 3 Sep 2004 (Forum)
I'm slightly suspect that they think ABS might have made it worse - careful braking has always kept me out of trouble and I didn't lock up the wheel that wasn't in the oil. However, the brakes on my brother's Megane are fantastic and I'd consider changing car if just stamping on the brakes brought me out of trouble like this. -
Astra H 1.6 petrol - Should I have my Repairs done? 8 May 2023 (Forum)
It’s a cracking car if I’m honest and is currently on 73,000 miles. It is now at the cambelt stage. Also I’ve been advised to have the camshaft pulleys changed to remove this annoying rattle in the engine bay. It is a common thing apparently on these. For maintenance purposes I’m also having the water pump, thermostat valve, coolant drain and refil, aux belt, rocker cover gasket, oil change and filters. -
Honda Fit 2006 - Honda Jazz problem ?EGR valve 19 May 2017 (Forum)
It never happens while cruising. However it does not happen every single time, it is inconsistent. Spark plugs have been changed and throttle cleaned. Apparently the coils are fine as well. The auto transmission oil was flushed late last yr due to the juddering problem which did seem to help it for a little while but then it came back. -
First fill of biodiesel 28 Apr 2013 (Forum)
As there was a frost last night, I get to find out pretty quickly whether or not there will be any problems starting up, not that I expect any. I do expect that when I change the oil and filter in roughly 1000 miles of driving, some, most or hopefully all of the sludge which has been building up on the bottom of the fuel tank will have been deposited on the old filter. -
Peugeot 607 (2000 - ) - 2002 2.0 hdi Turbo boost coming in late 12 Apr 2012 (Forum)
However the next day same problem. We have changed all the vacume sensors on the back wall of the engine bay. Checked the fuel filter. And the pipe still isnt preasurising at a lower range. The turbo is working you just have to drive the car at high revs to feel it coming in. -
Mondeo head gasket 25 Apr 2007 (Forum)
A local garage has now replaced the water pump, along with the cam belt and tensioners, auxillary belt (and completed an oil change whilst they were in there!)... All this added up, but it was a cost I was willing to pay. The car is 10 years old with 115000 on the clock. 2.0 Ghia Auto zetec engine... My problem now?
