A new car for my Mother 13 Mar 2009 (Forum)
ve persuaded her against her original idea of changing to an automatic as it has been 35 years since she has driven one but that may come back as we go round dealers. Also because of misfueling and DPFs I?m tending to advise against diesels. I?ve suggested a C-Max or a Golf Plus. She said she really fancied that Volvo from the new adverts which I think she means is the XC60 which is too expensive as is the Kuga and probably not what she wants when she sees or drives one in the flesh. -

Things we didn't ask for on cars 22 Sep 2009 (Forum)
I can't think of anything more likely to introduce extra wear within the engine, plus other problems. Yet it's OK and we are not driving the cars correctly? Yup, a wizard idea the DPF 5. HID headlights....Yeah great, so what was wrong with the halogen bulbs for £2.99, they were easy to replace as well. But no the auto industry starts fitting these expensive white elephants...perhaps because our modern streets and motorways are not lit as well, or perhaps we can't see so good. -
Hyundai i30 GDI Turbo petrol - Petrol particulate filters 25 Jun 2023 (Forum)
I appreciate that the technology is still quite new but can anyone advise if there are likely to similar issues to DPFs in terms of the impact of failed regenerations as I intend t keep the car for at least 7 years? I certainly wasn’t expecting a new petrol engine to have particulate filter issues especially for a car that’s just 7 months old with only3k miles. -
Dacia / Duster - SUV recommendations 29 Jun 2020 (Forum)
Due to our low mileage (currently) I’m concerned after being bitten badly with a Peugeot engined Fiesta TDCi’s injectors,ERG and DPF. Are the Dacia diesels suitable for potential longer term 5-10m mileage or should I head towards petrol? Any other feedback on the Duster’s which seem incredible value? We’re not expecting the refinement of a Qashqui obviously! -

Peugeot 307 - Twist or stick? 9 Jul 2012 (Forum)
I would also look to get the timing belt and probably water pump replaced while the system was drained. In addition, I’m aware that this car has a DPF which relies on chemicals to regenerate which will need attention at some point. I have around £10k for a replacement and would consider a convertible as the kids are now old enough to climb in and out of a 2 door car but then I keep thinking, the 307 is paid for, costs £30 per year VED, £250 to insure and returns 55 mpg (brim to brim). -

Any - Looking for my next car £5-6K budget 17 Feb 2012 (Forum)
Before I started doing my research I was dead set on a Diesel due to my higher than average annual mileage, but within my budget it sounds like I may be better with a medium sized petrol due to the potentially high maintainance bills related to '05 on diesel cars with DPF etc. That said, I've heard good things about VAG 1.9 PD engines but I'm not really after a big car. Would prefer a chain cam for reliability. Any suggestions? I like the look of the 1.6 8v SEAT Leon mark 2 (which I gather is belt cam).
