Nissan Micra (1992 - 2003) - 92 1.2 Starting Problems 18 Sep 2007 (Forum)
hi, I have a very peculiar and strange problem with my L reg nissa micra....and this problem surfaces only during winters...in the cold winter mornings the car engine turns but just doesn't fires up...as the day progresses and the temp goes up with sun and all, the engine fires up...also I have observed that the fuel pump switching on sound which comes up when u turn the ignition is missing when I try doing the same in the cold winter mornings....I have been going mad over this issue and have got everything else checked and changed like the...engine oil, spark plugs and even the distributor....still the problem of cold start in the mornings persists...and its just in the winter mornings....in summers there is no problem at all...already have spent more than £200 on the services....plz help...thanks. -
Nissan Sunny (1986 - 1991) - 1.4 12V H/B loss of power/revs on acceleration 17 Sep 2007 (Forum)
OK, coil gives correct resistances, diz cap looks OK (I think), leads seem OK too. Was serviced recently with new fuel filter, air filter, plugs, valve adjustment, oil change. Seemed better for a while now back to square 1. Son says better in the wet. Redex in tank and direct into carb. - no difference. I presume it's a fuel side problem? Likely culprits? Cheers for any help Alban -
Mazda Mazda 6 (2002 - 2007) - Servicing - Dealer or Independant? 15 Sep 2007 (Forum)
ie. is having the book stamped really worth the money in the long run (residual values when I come to sell on the car?) or should I just get it serviced partly myself (oil/filter change etc.) and perhaps more complicated bits at a local garage and forgo the book stamping. Any advice greatly appreciated. Andy -
Rover - K-series head gasket failure prevention? 22 Aug 2007 (Forum)
Might it be as important to do this at 100,000m on any engine as changing the cam belt? -
Passat 99 TDI - flood water damage 28 Jun 2007 (Forum)
Imagine my shock when I was called this morning to say that the car started and has been run for a short distance. He's advised me to have the oil and filter changed pronto (as it's emulsified) and also the air filter. Given the nature of these VAG PD engines with their very fine engineering tolerances, I'm thinking of cancelling the insurance claim, getting it "clean" and chopping it in for something else asap. -
Just bought Pug 106 1.5D 19 Sep 2006 (Forum)
What's the best engine oil for this car? Also when turning right car makes a noise which seems to be coming from the o/s front tyre so it could be CV joint? Is it costly? Every now and then battery light in the dashboard comes on and then just switched itself off after driving for few minutes. -
Ford Focus - Jerky Throttle 23 May 2006 (Forum)
I have tried hundreds of variations in throttle use, from "flooring it", down to easing power back *very* gently and progressively, and *every* time the car "lurches" back on the power again (seems more noticable when at normal operating temperature). Is this a problem with the 2.0l 16v Zetec engine on 80,000 miles? It has clean air filter / oil & filter changed 2000 miles ago. Any suggestions what may be causing this? P.S. I do not have this problem in any other car I have owned / driven so do not think it is my throttle technique!. Thanks in advance Pete. -
Eceptionally low milage 7 Apr 2006 (Forum)
Last time it was moved was january this year. It was serviced 1000Km and 1500Km and last December 05 (oil/filter change) I believe the Klms to be genuine as it is an Expat who bought the car then had to relocate. He is now trying to cut his losses. The car was approx 25/26K new and i was thinking of offering 15/16K. -
VW / Audi long life servicing experience 28 Dec 2005 (Forum)
I have searched here before and the main opinion was that you should either return to fixed servicing, or oil change in between. Given that the long life servicing has been out there some time now does anyone have any real experience of it in terms of how long they get between services, and any reliability issues with big service intervals outside of warranty? -
Problems with Rover 75 6 Jun 2005 (Forum)
Would this be the timing chain or something else less serious...Rover dealer did say it could be a fuel issue as they havent heard of chains needing replacing and its had 5K oil changes. Car is 1999 Diesel with 210,000 on the clock! Any ideas would be great! -
Bellypans 5 Oct 2004 (Forum)
they are an absolute pig to get off, and even worse to refit unless you have a pit or a hydraulic ramp. I have even even up doing my own oil changes because it just isn't worth the bother, I now go to my local ATS. Is there really any point to these things? My wife's Saxo hasn't got one, and with both cars roughly on the same mid seventies mileage the engine bays look in about the same state of cleanliness. -
Volkswagen Golf II (1983 - 1992) - Leaking Coolant. 6 Aug 2004 (Forum)
The following day i checked to see how much water was lost, this was approximately an inch of the expansion tank. I thought it might be the head gasket but there is no oil in the water e.t.c. Have you any ideas what it could be? Thanks -
306 DTurbo starting 16 Dec 2002 (Forum)
The last few days has seen it getting harder and harder to start. On cold starts it would fire on 3 cylinders, belching out white smoke from the tailpipe. I changed the glow plugs today but this seems to have made the problem worse. Now it will fire and stall, several times until it will eventually run. Once started, it runs fine, plenty of power and it is not using any coolant or oil (Headgasket was done 6K ago). -
Fiat Brava 1.2 SX Choke Problems 15 Oct 2002 (Forum)
Once the choke was off the engine would tick over nicely, all be it what sounds like some tappet noise. Should this concern me on a 1.2? The car has done 23K miles and has a full service history with oil changes about evry 6K. -

Astra running slow 21 Mar 2002 (Forum)
I am not a boy racer and I do not thrash the car anywhere. Over the coarse of the year its had new plugs (bosch 4 cathode jobbie), leads, 2 oil and filter changes, air filter, and a new rocker cover gasket as far as the engine goes. I only use quality petrol. I have tried cleaning out the throttle body housing with carb cleaner also. When it is warm and under full load, it also tends to pink sometimes. -
Life's a ..... 2 May 2002 (Forum)
t sure if I had imagined it. Saw another. Still uncertain what it was. Then it really started to blink, red oil can symbol appeared. Recalled instructions of umpteen years ago that if I ever saw an oil light appear I was to stop immediately or the car would BLOW UP. Was on the A2 approaching M2 which presents me with a dilemma. -

Bye CR-V, hello… 9 Nov 2010 (Forum)
Three years ago we bought a new CR-V and I have to say it was a good car. The only problems were the rear diff making a “groaning” noise, this was sorted by changing the diff oil for a different spec. All four alloys started to bubble so were replaced. The worst problem was the battery going flat. This was last winter and the ECU didn’t shut down the electrics so there was a constant drain, after three days it wouldn’t even turn over. -
How long could you keep a car ? 8 Sep 2009 (Forum)
It may well outlast me ! In that time I've had a lot of cars. I've always done a highish mileage and habitually changed the cars every couple of years or even less. Recently though I've been hanging on to them longer. They seem to last better these days. Galvanised bodies, modern oils etc I suppose. We change our cars for all manner of reasons, maybe we just fancy a change, perhaps we need a different type of vehicle for some new purpose, it could be that we have grown tired of the old one or in reality most often because we just want to and have decided we can afford it.
