• Car won't start in the garage after MOT & Service 6 Oct 2018 (Forum)
    After further research it appears that these cars are prone to the timing chain slipping if it’s not considered during an oil change.   The garage have agreed to fit a new timing chain free of charge however we’re now being told that car still isn’t starting due to valve damage.   They’re now saying that this is going to be a big job and cost a lot of money.

  However, he finds it hard to believe the attitude of some of them towards car maintenance and safety checks. Today one person boasted he never had his car serviced bar an oil and filter change every two years. Previously a number of members felt it was adequate to have your tyres checked as part of the MOT. They would probably think I have OCD as a check pressures, the treads (including sidewalls and also looking for uneven wear) and for any foreign objects in the tread most weeks.

  I was wondering though if the 122bhp engine had an equally bad reputation or is it basically okay if its had regular oil changes? Thanks again in advance

  255/55 R18 2 The fuel pressure regulator is leaking badly, on the road the engine surges under acceleration, is this a symptom or is it the turbo, it just runs out of steam at 70 mph. 3. Auto box seems to want to change up the gears too early. 4. engine oil leaf, steering box leak, fuel filter head leak, left hand rear chasis leg rotten, need just about every brake pipe replaced, ACE system still fitted and needs deactivated, air removed and on rear shocks.

  So far I have had it serviced each time at the same main dealer and have had no issues. Following advice here, I got an oil and filter change by a mate about 6k miles after the last service and plan to do that between service intervals from now on. My hope is to keep the car for another 3 to 4 years and at current mileage, that will likely be into 150k miles territory.

   I do long miles and my legs are killing me because i just can't stretch out.  I am seriously going to change because I just won't fit!!! Just - so - cramped!!!   Apart from that. what a great car

  If thats the problem would the light go off or need re-setting ? (Also read about wrong grade oil causing valve lifters to stay open etc?) many thanks, Mike

  Suddenly the revs took off, I took my foot off immediately, revs still climbing to about 3500 so stopped the engine with the on/off button. Lots of soot on the floor at the exhaust. the EGR valve was changed a 3 months ago and oil checked about 3 weeks ago. Any ideas as to what it could be?

  Since the car is delivered with antifreeze when it was brand new and I don't give any chance to the owner to change the coolant within 3 years with a coolant without antifreeze for no reason, I am suspecting of possible damage on the car. Do you agree with me? Can you comment on this?

  The car is used only to tow a horse trailer and hasn't even done that for a few months, so I don't want to spend a lot on it but equally don't want to scrap it. The handbook says that the auto transmission and filter should never need its fluid changed. It needs Castrol TQ95 which isn't available as far as I can tell. My questions are as follows: 1 Is there any point in being optimistic about trans fluid being the problem? 2 If so then what is teh equivalent oil?

      What do you lot think..head gasket or craked head??..there are no leaks. Head gaskets I have done in the past have all has oil and water mixed Thanks.

  I know it is a case of 'you pays your money, you takes your pick' and I know I need to see it and drive it etc but any opinions on a target price for this assuming it is in a good state? Also are there any glaring issues with these that I should be wary of? I hear oil changes in these are expensive, not sure when the cambelt will need doing.

    there is also a booming kind of noise from the engine although it appears to be ticking over very nicely. Air filter is clean.  Oil and cambelt were changed recently. Any ideas would be great as this was meant to be a cheap car and any problems i shall have to fix myself as cant afford the garage bill. And finally where is the rev guage sensor as rev guage is not working?

  Normally its up at middle after about 3 miles. I noticed this last night on my way home, I did a DIY oil change on Saturday but cant be sure if this problem is related or has been happening for a few weeks. The temp gauge isnt something I normally look at. When I got home I started the car in test mode and the engine temperature was showing as 107c so the engine was definatly hot.

  we have a 2000 golf cabriolet colour concept which when warm keeps cutting out. The rev counter drops to zero, the oil light flashes then the battery light flashes and car dies. You have to stop the car, key out and then re start it but as engine gets warmer it cuts out more frequently. Read about relay 109 and garage said mine doesnt have a relay 109 and told me to change relay 30 which i did but it still isnt fixed ??

  My rev counter is eratic on tic over and whilst driving, seems to be worse under 50miles an hour the overall performance is very poor engine management light is on continually had diagnostics twice first one was intermittent misfire and was suggested a valve was sticking new oil and additives were added to the engine but to no avail second diagnostic cam shaft sensor fault,replaced it, but no change,I have been told it could be the lambada sensor is not working I have disconnected the plug on the wiring harness while the engine was ticking over no difference was noted on engine tick over and rev counter was still operating eraticaly took it for a drive round the block no difference was noted, if the lambada was working correctly would I have noticed a difference after unplugging it.I hope sombody can advise me it has been going on for a long time and I have spent a lot of money on false leads.

  That's fair enough, the 6 is a lolvely looking car, and it's probably great as long as it's not you paying for frequent oil changes because the diesel particulate filter fills the sump with diesel. But we are then told that this diesel estate car costs half what a large, heavy, thirsty 4x4 does per mile, while not mentioning that it is completely unable to tow the same weight, go offroad, or do anything much that would make the comparison more relevant.

  This has been an ongoing problem over the past month or two, but is now getting much worse and is nearly happening on a dialy basis. I have recently had a service, oil change and spark plugs replaced. (Also I am a newbie when it comes to car engines) Any idea's or help appreciated, Thanks in advance! P.S. Also VW official garage are quoting 85+VAT... JUST TO HAVE A LOOK!!!
• Volkswagen Polo III (1994 - 1999) - 1999 1.9D 'Lights On' buzzer not working 27 Sep 2008 (Forum)
  I've looked at the Haynes wiring diagram and it doesn't show how the buzzer is triggered by the door switch. I'm guessing it's the same buzzer as for the low oil pressure warning because I can't see another. Any help to clear the fog appreciated. Thanks Steve.

  I'm thinking of changing my Ka to the above - I accept insurance will be a challenge (I'm only 24!) but the increased running costs currently seem favourable to shelling out on the engine work required on the Ka (drinking oil) and getting it through the MOT in July.
