  • Kia ceed vs ford focus 21 Feb 2017 (Forum)
I've found one of each within my budget and now I'm just dithering as I had set on the ceed. I know the focus used to DMF issues, is this still the case? I've also read somewhere that the DPF would need replacing at 70,000 miles? I also have been told several times that 1.6 tends to suffer from fuel pump failure hence why thisbis the 1.8. Sorry for babbling, female, blonde and clueless!
  • CRV alternatives. 5 Feb 2017 (Forum)
I also recently read that there have been issues with the aircon (although that was on a US site just in case that makes any difference) I have decided on a petrol due to the short journeys I do (DPF a definite no go for me) My reasons for an SUV is that I need something with a high ride height due to my outdoor hobbies. I would like 4WD as an extra luxury due to some of the places I go but can live without it if necessary so long as I'm careful where I park up.
  • Mazda Mazda 6 (2002 - 2007) - May 06 Diesel 143 - misfire at 1250 revs 26 Apr 2015 (Forum)
It's done 23K and had service at Dealers at 12K last May and I changed oil and filter at 18K with Mazda DPF Dexelia. Now last few weeks misfires all the time if you go slow enough in second gear and take it easy. I can even tell in these last few weeks it's not running right up to 2000 rev's. In traffic it's awful feels like it's off on a cylinder.

  • Buying advice needed: Family car - thinking ahead 14 Jul 2014 (Forum)
During the life of the next vehicle I expect to do university runs.   What I want: * A vehicle which avoids mechanical sillyness (DMF, DPF, cam belt...) which kills me after year 5.   What my wife wants: * a nice interior.   I'm looking at Toyota Avensis in petrol, manual transmission. They look good, but there's not many around.
  • Mazda CX-5 - Mazda CX-5 - Petrol vs Diesel 2WD 6 Jul 2014 (Forum)
Here's some info around our useage- - This will be a long term purchase, not a change after 3 years (DPF's and DMF's scare me on the diesel once it drops out of warranty.) - It won't do more that 10k miles per year - The car will cover more stop/start A-road driving than motorway (Motorwary will just be on family trips at weekends) One on hand the diesel has some nice grunt low down in the range so you're not changing gear all the time and the turbo gives you good power when you need it.
  • I have recently bought an 07 plate Focus C-max 1.6 - Hesitation when ubder load. 3 May 2014 (Forum)
You can feel the car holding back a bit between 2000 and 2500 revs , and it sort of "pulses". Feels like it may be a fuel issue , or maybe air flow? It is the 90bhp engine, so no DPF to consider. It has been back to the Hyundai i30 diesel vs Seat Leon 1.2 TSI 22 Jan 2014 (Forum)
The car will do a small number of very short trips during the week, but will get at least a couple of long-ish journeys each week, so I am thinking that this would be OK for the DPF etc on the diesel. The car will also be used to do long cross-country trips too on a monthly basis, so I want something that will also be a good relaxing long distance car. The car we buy would be kept for a long period (current car 9 years!)
  • 2007 VW Crafter 109ps Long Wheel Base Model - VW Crafter, have i made a Mistake? 13 Nov 2013 (Forum)

  • various - VAG CR diesel maintenance costs 23 Feb 2012 (Forum)
I'm looking for a new car, which I intend to own for at least 7 years, hopefully 10yrs if it proves reliable and hard-wearing. Various VAG cars are on the shortlist VW website claims that the DPF's on their latest diesels "last the lifetime of the car", which I assume is 12 years, based on VW corrosion warranty. The VED for a VAG 2.0TDI in a Golf is £30 per annum, against £130 for a  Golf 1.4TSI, so a £1000 saving over 10 years.
  • Mitsubishi ASX - Head or Heart. Diesel or petrol 4 Feb 2012 (Forum)

  • Any - Next car - undecided between petrol or diesel 23 Jan 2012 (Forum)
Based on current fuel prices I would save around 2k a year on fuel with diesel.  I am looking at DPF free models as don't really want to fork out 1k at around 100k (will be buying 2nd hand with around 60-80k on the clock) I've had a few problems with my mazda 6 so want to move to a Jap brand with minimal/no European influence as reliability is incredibly important.
  • SEAT Toledo III (2005 - ) - 07 2.0D Economy is poor. 2 Sep 2008 (Forum)
I'm asking for a work colleague who has the aforesaid vehicle, with DSG gearbox, approx 14K miles (memory failing rapidly, mine) on the vehicle. He's pretty sure it doesn't have a DPF, if those better informed know differently, please say. My friend has owned this vehicle for about 8 months, he doesn't cover many miles, but the thing drinks diesel, he gets on average 38 to 40 mpg, he bought it used with very low mileage, one of a pair being offered through the dealership.
  • Euro 4 & Diesel cars 3 Feb 2008 (Forum)
To quote Screwloose from a thread in technical " I take it that this is a Euro-4 car laden down with all the economy-sapping emissions paraphernalia like an exhaust DPF? There's a lot of similar complaints on all late diesels; they're now only worth driving if you prefer the characteristics. They may now even cost more to run that equivalent petrols. " Personally I love diesel cars, but I can't believ what is happening, EU legislation is trying to cut emissions, but, reduced economy means we actual burn more fuel???
