Ford Fiesta Encore 1998, (1.3 petrol Endura-E) - 1998 Fiesta 1.3 fails MOT on emissions 29 Mar 2011 (Forum)
My 1998 Fiesta (1.3 Endura-E) has just failed its MOT on emissions: Fast idle test: CO 0.65% (too high, fail), Lamdba 1.038 (too high, fail), HC 105ppm (pass) Natural idle test: CO: 0.5% (pass) The engine was nice and warm during the test, and I believe the tester wanted it to pass. Things I did before the test: New air filter, oil change and new oil filter, checked valve clearances, cleaned muck from inside rocker cover, checked exhaust system for leaks, ran car at high revs for a couple of miles. The cat (around £250 on this model) was replaced 11 months ago. -
Ford Fiesta 1.4 TDCi - White/grey smoke on startup or after idling 15 Mar 2011 (Forum)
Also the fuel economy is poor, I'm only getting 30-35 MPG. The Ford dealer has inspected the injectors, changed the leak off pipes and injector seals and changed the oil and filter. I then went to a diesel specialist who pulled off various pipes and breathers and ran the engine with the turbo disconnected and still the plumes of smoke, his comments were possibly petrol in the tank and that the engine was 'breathing heavy'. -

Ford Mondeo 1 (1993 - 1996) - 96 1.8 turbo or head gasket blown? 25 Sep 2009 (Forum)
My Mark 1 diesel 1.8 Mondeo died on the road the other day. The power started dropping off as I was driving. Foot to the floor I was changing down the gears but there was nothing there. I noticed white smoke pouring out the back. I managed to get it off the road and as I turned into the junction the engine died altogether and the oil and batt light came on. -
Servicing my car 15 Dec 2004 (Forum)
I was going to do the same again next time but wondered just what it was that needed doing, apparently the next service is £120 - other than nice new oil, is there really any point paying £120 on a car which, lets face it, is going to be pretty much worthless by the time I've finished with it? Is the Ford main dealer service history worth keeping? I can't help thinking I'm just paying for nothing really and i'd be better off just changing the oil every 5k miles - coolant etc is the Ford 'long life' stuff that apparently never needs changing, it had new plugs at the last service, etc etc. -
Piston Rings - VAG 2.0 petrol engine 28 Oct 2003 (Forum)
Given that they want the car for three days I'm thankful for the warranty! Does the car need 'running in' after new piston rings? Should the oil be changed before the next scheduled change in 10k miles? Have we just been unlucky with our engine or has anybody else had VAG cough up for new piston rings? Many thanks -
Bin Lumbered - Persistant Polo Probs 13 Dec 2001 (Forum)
I have had it in to be looked at numerous times and most of the main culprits have been ruled out. The carb has been reconditioned and seems ok. new carb gasket, fuel filter changed, plugs changed, leads checked, idle up, idle down, advanced, retarded. I am almost at a total loss and have used up too many favours with my local friendly mechanic. I checked the oil cap tonight atfer more complaints and found evidence of mayonaisse. -
Citroen Berlingo 1.6 hdi 2008 diesel engine - Diesel leaking from injector top 14 Mar 2016 (Forum)
Hi, I noticed that there is a diesel (disesl and oil) leak from where the injectors sit on the bore top, all inectors and injector seals were changed. After being changed, every thing went well with three injectors with completely dry surrounding, but the problen continued with injector No 2 which was replaced again by a good functioning one which was inspected by a specialist technician before fitting it in place, the proble went on with the leak from the same injector!
