It was parked up for a few hours and taken out again, for some 25 miles, the MIL remained lit at start up and during the journey but the car behaved exactly as it should do. Up until a 18 months ago my car did have a re-occurring issue with the DPF warning light every 6 months or so, due to the low daily mileage, then; once the car was taken for a blast the light went out, I suspect being sat for mostly 2 months is the cause rather than a fault, but questions remain; will the light go out, and what else can I do now other than take it for a blast or see a main dealer ? -

We have already been to a few garages and seen a few SUV/MPV's but we've no idea whats going to cost us an arm and a leg to keep going I know diesel engine can be a bit funny for short journeys but if we could find one without a DPF then I would consider that also as we are likely to give it a blast every week or so. We have thought about the following VW Sharan ( petrol or early 1.9 / 2.0 tdi ) VW Touran ( petrol or early 1.9 / 2.0 tdi ) Mazda5 ( Petrol ) Ford S-Max ( Petrol ) ..Maybe Vauxhall Zafira ( petrol or diesel ) Sorry if this repeats some of the questions asked before but the other posts seemed a bit different cheers -

Also am a bit confused about tax costs - both models list as £30 but I read elsewhere this changed in 2017 & diesels now attract £140 tax minimum? Really don't know what to do. Worried about the overall fuel efficiency and possible DPF problems. Advice much appreciated! -
New car dilemma 10 Sep 2017 (Forum)
The issue is that both the Merc and the BMW are only available in diesel (the BMW is theoretically available in petrol, but try finding one and the CLS63 AMG is excluded because it is not approved for towing), and I don't do a high mileage, around 100 miles a week to work, hence I am concerned about the dreaded DPF issue and MPG is not really an issue. Also, with disels now becoming less PC, future taxes are a possibility, so I would only consider an EU6 compliant car. Do I simply avoid all the worry about diesel and bite the bullet and buy the Audi which is available in petrol V6/V8 ?
