  • PPeugeot 306 Turbo Diesel - Fumes in cabin urgent help needed 12 Oct 2010 (Forum)
No excessive smoke or drips out of the exhaust when driving. Recently I have had the air filter and oil filter changed. I am getting the whole exhaust replaced as the end of the tail pipe has corroded and there is not a proper exhaust exit and I think this could be the cause of fumes coming into the cabin.
  • Volkswagen Passat (2001 - 2005) - 01 2.8 Exhaust white smoke after 2 months left sta 25 Oct 2009 (Forum)
Should I change the oil and see if that fixes it? (cheaper than a head gasket!). By the way, the engine oil looks clear, it's only on the oil cap there is the white stuff. The engine temperature needle stayed right in the middle where it should be.

  • Volkswagen Passat (2001 - 2005) - Aftermath of Cam Belt etc. Change 14 Nov 2007 (Forum)
Seems that there are more things than water pumps to worry about on this engine. Also got an advisory to change the EGR valve at £189 all in. It is dribbling oil. Why?
  • Jaguar X-Type 2.0d SE - X type update 28 Feb 2018 (Forum)
The service and MOT cost £190 inc. VAT (he uses Forte flush and diesel clean) and interim oil and filter changes are about £50. I bought the car, more or less sight unseen, for £2,700 five years ago at 132,000 miles. It has been, I think, one of my better purchases. I hope to run it it to 200,000 - if only to watch the odometer change.
  • Vauxhall asta 1.6 16 valve 2004 - Vauxhall astra engine problem 3 Nov 2012 (Forum)
I am new here and heard through friends that this is the best place for advice. My car has been eating oil like mad for a while. Started to loose power and stayed in high revs before changing gears(automatic). Had the cat change and fitted a new egr valve. But problem is still there. Started to blow white smoke realy bad when reving engin or pulling away.
  • omega gearbox bizare problem 23 May 2005 (Forum)
There is a pipe hanging down from the box that looks like a vacuum pipe but vauxhall say its a breather . I had the oil changed at vauxhall but i know they can only change around 40% no difference if not worse. I just dont understand how it goes from perfect to crap just because of temperature even thought it has a oil cooler in the radiator.

  • Vauxhall Astra G Petrol (1998 - 2004) - 2002 1.6 16v Ticking noise, EML, poor starting etc 10 Jun 2008 (Forum)
evening folks, a friend asked me to have a look at his '02 plate astra 1.6 16v (Z16XE engine i believe) done 60k, as he said it was making a ticking noise. after looking at it and speaking to him ive ascertained the following, it had no oil in it (not registering on dipstick) may have been this way for awhile, once putting a few litres of oil in it is significantly quieter although still tappety in my opinion, i told him to check oil when stone cold in the morning as it may well need some more and i suspect it may quieten down some more once the oil has had chance to get back around the system and into the tappets, really hoping he hasn't damaged it seriously, there are no bottom end knocking noises but it could need new tappets.

  • Skoda Fabia - Fuel leaking into the Sump tank 10 Jan 2019 (Forum)
Has anyone heard of this? Is it too much off a coincidence or happened within a month of the water pump and cambelt being changed? Just after some honest advice, thank you
  • MAZDA CX3 - SERVICE PLANS-PROS AND CONS 17 Jul 2018 (Forum)
I have a confident and cheaper local independent, but doubt whether he has access to all the Mazda gadgetry(s) BUT -assuming the three years of servicing  will mainly  involve just checks, top ups and an oil change-perhaps it's better to just "pay as I go" ?   In fact I have a sneeky feeling the deal might not even include the oil change( anyone know?), hence my obvious question--what's included/what's not?
  • Vauxhall Zafira B - Vauxhall Zafira co2 emissions fail 1 Sep 2017 (Forum)
I recently put it in for it's MOT and it's failed on two minor things and then co2 emissions. I tried additive and a good thrashing and put it for retest it still failed. So I tried an oil change and new oil filter gave it a run again and it still failed. Put it for diagnostics which the garage said came back clear so they were sure it was the cat. So i had a new cat put in and downpipe at the garages recommendation but had my brother in law do it independently who is a qualified mechanic.
