  • 1999 VW Polo 1.9D (mk4) - cold spot/smoke 20 Jan 2011 (Forum)
When I first bought my Polo it vibrated quite alot on tick over and got noisier, and so decide to give it an overhall.Firstly I changed the diesel filter/air filter and oil and oil filter replaced the timing belt and tensioner  aux belt and hydraulic valve lifters when doing this amongst other things  I had to remove the righthand engine mount under the car and noticed the nut and bolt connecting to the engine was undone and rattling then when I got to changing the cam belt I set the diesel pump sprocket at TDC and noticed the timing was out on the fltwheel mark  anyway put everything back together, but for some reason the car has developed a coldspot when first starting and within the coldspot it chucks out loads off smoke,so somewhere along the long it has got to be something to do with the idle booster from cold or in that area but dont know how to set it up.The engine runs ok once its is warmed up and has curd the vibration. Can anyone explain to me how to set the injector pump idle booster or cold start up.

  • Vectra C Eco-Service Query 15 Feb 2006 (Forum)
Why does it say this? If I press the odometer reset button with the ignition off, it flashes up 21,000 miles to next oil change. As I have done 700 miles since it has been serviced, It looks like the car is set up for variable oil change servicing. I didn't find the retailer helpful, so I am loathe to ask them again.
  • 306 HDi - Engine/Sump Guard Broken 2 Nov 2004 (Forum)
Judging from the difficulty of removing these bolts I presume these have never been removed so guess that changing the oil involves removing the quick snap locks and the 2 bolts at the rear and flexing the guard it down to get to the sump. But this means an oil change cant be done at home without a getting the car a couple of feet off the ground?
  • MX6 cambelt 9 Jun 2004 (Forum)
Friend (very non-mechanical, has blown 2 engines on Fords by not checking oil!!!) now has P reg MX6 with 80k on clock. I mentioned to him about cambelt changes as well as checking oil occasionally. He doesn't know if belt has been done. Checked on HJ car by car and there is conflicting advice Quote:- "Lovely 2.5 litre 24v 165 bhp V6.
  • Nissan Micra K12 - Strange oil pressure issue 7 Mar 2016 (Forum)
The mechanic dropped the sump and cleaned the (already clean) strainer, then he flushed out the gallery, changed the oil and filter and finally replaced the oil pressure switch - all to no avail. He put a gauge on to it and said the pressure was fine, but I suspect the engine was probably hot at that stage.
  • car service in the future 21 Jun 2019 (Forum)
Although a long way off I wonder what will happen to the garage service industry with presumably no oil changes and ever increasing reliability of component moving parts. I read they are testing Hydrogen trains so cars can't be far off?  Hydrogen, if practical, certainly seems a better bet than your electric scenario with all the range and charging permutations.

I'm considering buying the above car first registered July 2006. However, it has no maintenance shown on the service records other than an oil & filter change last month. It has covered 10,000 miles. Price asked is £5300. Should I be wary?
  • Opinions on Kia Magentis 10 Jun 2007 (Forum)
People IMO don't seem to be able to comment on them, but i think its solid Mitsubishi technology at a knockdown price, for the savvy on a budget. I do my own oil changes and pad checks etc.
  • Ford Escort 1.6 16v Zetec 5 Nov 2005 (Forum)

  • service warning lights..OK? 6 Jan 2005 (Forum)
(merc 220 diesel) It has done 10,000 miles at least since it saw a garage and I am concerned that this thing may be faulty. I changed the oil as a precaution but the 'you need a service' sign stays off. Any thoughts?
