Daewoo Matiz 800cc 2001 - Daewoo Matiz no power!? Engine check flashing 26 Aug 2011 (Forum)
Took to local garage but they couldn't get a computer reading. They said it would most lightly be the coil pack or the head gasket. They suggested changing the plugs, leads and coil pack and a cost of £200!! And they also said they'd carry out a compression test to rule out it being the head gasket. Simply don't have the money to get it done, so I changed the leads but still no joy, is my next step to buy a used coil pack and try that or should I go down a diff avenue (i don't want to waste money i haven't got) My brother who sadly lives in austrailia so isn't here to help, said the spark plugs should be fine as they were only changed in march and to check the oil tank for 'mayo' which indicates it being the head gasket, I've done this and it looks fine. -
Nissan Almera N16 (2003) - Nissan Almera Brake Problems? 25 Jun 2010 (Forum)
This leads me to believe the following potential culprits: Warped brake discs Possibly early signs of failing bearings (although this would get louder as the car goes faster) Discs were replaced 45k miles ago along with new pads. No harsh braking done during this time. Brake fluid changed 6k miles (3 months) ago. Car was in the garage a few weeks ago for an oil change and the pads looked like they had a lot of life in them. However the mechanic did point out some markings on the disc to suggest they will need changing at some point soon. -
Hyundai i40 tourer 1.7 active 115ps - Reliability/Economy/Maintenance 3 Jan 2018 (Forum)
Notwithstanding the above, the car in general has been fault free, and has only had routing servicing... Note... despite the 20k service intervals, the car has an intermediate oil and filter change every 10k. Also note that the car requires C3 spec oil, that is Low SAPS/Low ash oil... vital to prevent problems with the DPF. Good news is... it has a timing chain, so as long as the oil changes are done regularly with decent oil as specified, and the engine isn't thrashed, no problems to be expected there! -
Warranty claim / conflict of interest for garage 31 Jul 2009 (Forum)
As the car was still within the first 6 months of my ownership I was advised of the obligation the supplying garage have to me under the sale / supply of goods act, so contacted them. They recovered the car and diagnosed the fault as a blown turbo which was changed under the warranty and they had cleaned the various oil pipes which had become blocked over time causing the heavy breathing. They said the technician found the level of heavy breathing to be normal; which surprised me and did cause me some alarm but I was reasonably happy as they said they had tested it for 300 miles and it was not using any oil. -

Ford Fiesta (2000 - 2002) - 00 1.8TD - Potential problems? 20 Jan 2009 (Forum)
Is this normal? The cam & alternator belt had been (apparently) changed just before I bought it. 3) When driving over 65mph sometimes a 'washing machine on spin' noise comes from the engine. Its not very loud, but noticeable. On investigation I discovered the engine had too much oil, so got some drained, and it didn't seem to make the noise for a few weeks, but now its back. -

very slow galaxy 1.9 tdi PD 24 Oct 2006 (Forum)
For the last 6 months my Galaxy has been very slow on accelerating and top speed of about 75. It really caused problems in Wales !!!! I have changed the MAF sensor twice - Fuel filter - air and oil filters - and checked intercooler and as many pipes as I could find. The symptons were: acceleration very slow of the mark until hit 2000 rpm and turbo kicked in and then kicked out straight away. -
Citroen Xsara Clutch/Gearbox 27 Jan 2004 (Forum)
I'm not harsh on the clutch or anything, it just seems to be the way it is. As of today, the gear change has become extremely smooth (like a really good auto) yet I haven't changed my driving style at all. Not only that, the gearlever felt like it has immersed in oil and went straight into any gear I tried with very little effort. -
2.0 VVT-i T25 - White Smoke Avensis 17 Apr 2013 (Forum)
The coolant level hasn’t dropped at all as I have marked this on the expansion tank and the colour is nice and blue. The oil was changed by my mechanic about 1000 miles ago and looked fine as is the replacement oil. Dipstick looks good, oil filler cap looks good. I have driven it about 2000 miles now and none of the fluid levels have dropped at all not even half an inch. -
Audi A4 B7 2.0 TDI S (2005) - Oil Pressure light, dealer advised 'drive on'... 17 Feb 2013 (Forum)
He owns a 2005, A4 (B7, 2005) 2.0 TDi S. He appears to have tun into the oil light / wrecked engine issue as explained in this article this article of yours - with an estimated cost of £8000 from the local Audi dealership to fix. -
Toyota Previa 2.0 D4d - Coolant in sump?!? 19 Apr 2012 (Forum)
She has always been serviced on the button and never had any problems.. I even treated her to a main dealer cam belt / pulleys, water pump, coolant and oil change just over 5000 miles ago.. However over the weekend cruising along at 70mph on motorway, the car just stalled (no smoke, no warning lights, no buzzers, no prior indication anything was wrong!) -
Honda Accord UK (1998 - 2003) - 00 2.0 Auto Gearbox Failure after service 17 Jun 2009 (Forum)
The service manager admitted it was a little sluggish until warmed up but felt the gearchange was ok for a car of about 70,000 miles. He said they checked all that they had done at the service and cambelt change and everything was in order and all settings were correct. He said the gearbox hadn't been touched as the service didn't require it to have oil topped up etc. Basically he said car was fine - no problem! -
VW Up - What constitutes a service? 9 May 2019 (Forum)
He told me that a cambelt was not a routine service item and that its replacement would have had to been negotiated into the selling price if I had wanted it done at the time.He argued that a service is an oil change, check the breaks etc but nothing more. I'm very used to taking my car for a service and whatever needs doing being done with them contacting me to check its ok to do any more expensive items - such as a belt - before they carry out the work. -
Ford Focus 5Dr Hatchback 2.0 Ltr TDCI - Starting Problems 4 Aug 2015 (Forum)
and said they cannot find any faults and have said 'it is just one of those things' which will be like trying to find a needle in a haystack. The car has had a full service every 12 months/12.5k with fuel, oil, air filters changed each time even though the fuel and air filter does not need changing each time! Fuel treatment has also been added at each service. I hope someone can suggest a possible cause as I feel it will let me down at some point soon if this issue is not resolved. -
1.8 petrol Vauxhall Vectra Life - Lifespan of 1.8 petrol Vauxhall Vectra 18 Dec 2012 (Forum)
It is superb on long runs, fast and frugal as well as swallowing my children, labrador and all associated clobber. It's regularly serviced (gets an oil change at 10,000) but other that that is not 'cherished'. I think it still looks great and am always pleased to be seen in it. Money is very tight right now and I feel like I am running on faith, not having the spare to change it. -
Nissan Primera (P12 auto) - Worth considering? 31 Oct 2024 (Forum)
Seems that for the money, you can get one with lots of service history-I believe it's pretty crucial for the longevity of the timing chain to have had regular oil changes? We both like the interior design, and the reverse camera and optional sat nav are attractive options, which don't seem to be present on similar family cars of similar ages. Could anyone give me their opinion on these cars? -
Chrysler PT cruiser - AM I mad? 12 May 2018 (Forum)
Have another elderly friend who needs a cheapo car , so have given neighbour £200 for it, (it drives like a dream, tyres nearly new, bodywork perfect, leather etx, no warning lights, no starting problems. About £300 +vat for calipers, discs and brake pads, and will give it an oil change and fresh MOT. Service history complete with tons of bills, EVERYTHINg that was needed was done. will pass along to other friend if he wants it... Otherwise will use as a 2nd car, SWMBO likes automatics...
