  • Servicing..is it a rip off.. 6 Nov 2003 (Forum)
I recently went in to get my 20,000 mile (Diesel)service done at my local Pug dealer and came out for a bill of £230...for basically an oil change. Why does it cost so much for so little (I even had to ask nicely to get my tyres rotated). Is it me or is it just a dealer rip off?
  • fiat tipo turbo diesel bad mileage 14 Apr 2002 (Forum)
My car is constantly chucking out a cloud of dark grey/black smoke from the exhaust. The fuel and air filters have been changed recently and it doesn't use oil or water so I assume this is due to overfuelling??? Any ideas as to how I could adjust this myself????
  • Amazing Astra 24 Jan 2002 (Forum)
Reading the latest news story makes me wonder what the service history of this car looks like. Has it had oil changes every 5,000 miles using Miller's or similar. Or has it had stuff Barry Mead picks up at the local spares shop for £2.99 a gallon? Whatever the secret is of this cars long life, it would be educational.
  • pattern parts 10 Dec 2000 (Forum)
My car is a 91 1.6 Astra which has covered 76000 miles. I change the oil regularly and was wondering what the difference is between a filter costing £2 from a local motor factor and either a champian filter from Halfords or GM from Vaxhaull. As the filter is only on the car about 3 months would it make any difference?

  • 1999 VW Polo 1.9D (mk4) - cold spot/smoke 20 Jan 2011 (Forum)
When I first bought my Polo it vibrated quite alot on tick over and got noisier, and so decide to give it an overhall.Firstly I changed the diesel filter/air filter and oil and oil filter replaced the timing belt and tensioner  aux belt and hydraulic valve lifters when doing this amongst other things  I had to remove the righthand engine mount under the car and noticed the nut and bolt connecting to the engine was undone and rattling then when I got to changing the cam belt I set the diesel pump sprocket at TDC and noticed the timing was out on the fltwheel mark  anyway put everything back together, but for some reason the car has developed a coldspot when first starting and within the coldspot it chucks out loads off smoke,so somewhere along the long it has got to be something to do with the idle booster from cold or in that area but dont know how to set it up.The engine runs ok once its is warmed up and has curd the vibration. Can anyone explain to me how to set the injector pump idle booster or cold start up.

  • Vectra C Eco-Service Query 15 Feb 2006 (Forum)
Why does it say this? If I press the odometer reset button with the ignition off, it flashes up 21,000 miles to next oil change. As I have done 700 miles since it has been serviced, It looks like the car is set up for variable oil change servicing. I didn't find the retailer helpful, so I am loathe to ask them again.
