Ask HJ no longer worth it? 24 Aug 2020 (Forum)
I guess when it is time for it's November service, I'll see how much the dealer will charge for just an oil change compared to a year 5 service. Ive noticed the same old questions keep cropping up: what's the best \ cheapest dashcam, what's the best car for a 20 \ 70 year old, what's the best automatic small car etc, etc. -

2003 Ford KA Duratec - Strange only-when-warm-low-rpm hesitation! 21 Dec 2011 (Forum)
Nothing seems to fix the problem. I've of course done oil / filter / coolant changes. Bit of back history - before I met my girlfriend she thought the MOT was servicing, so the car did around 3 years and 30k on the same oil etc. I'm not sure if this could be part of the issue... -

Some people just don't listen... 7 Jan 2004 (Forum)
My father has one of these beasts - a 380, with over 300 000kms on the clock. Over the festive season, he gave it an oil change - long overdue, I must add. filled up with 20W60 (Shell helix - 'for older engines'), and replaced front wheel bearings. The inevitable happened, on Monday, he went out for the day, piled on a few kms. -
Fiat Brava - tappet noise. 1 Sep 2001 (Forum)
I took it to Fiat in croyodn where an off-duty fiat mechanic told me that it was just some gunge in the tappets, and to do an oil flush, and an oil change, neither of which have made any difference. Not being desperately 'mechanically sympathetic' I wonder if anyone can tell me if this is an early symptom of the classic bravX/marea cambelt failure, and or reccommend a good fiat specialist in the croydon area. -
astra 1.9 sri 150 - diesel mpg 13 Feb 2011 (Forum)
Hi, I have just had my 07 astra 1.9 serviced at a local garage (80k miles), and the fuel economy has dropped from 48 ish mpg down to 40mpg. I have contacted the garage and they say they have only changed the oil and all the filters as per service schedule. Can antone think of anything obvious that could have caused this !! I have filled the car up a couple of times and reset the trip computer but no change, still 40 mpg. -

Toyota Auris - Auris Hybrid 2013 - maintenance 28 Jul 2018 (Forum)
I have looked on the internet but can find no information about how much servicing I can do myself. I know its complicated new tech but can I still do the following jobs myself? 1. change engine oil and filter 2. Change radiator coolant 3. change brake pads/discs 4. change auxilliary belts (if it has them) 5. change air/fuel filters I really do not want a car which has to go to the dealer for routine servicing, I cannot afford it. -
Fiesta '96(P) 1.8D takes ages to start! 10 Feb 2006 (Forum)
I have a 1996 (P) mark IV Fiesta with the 1.8 Endura diesel engine which has covered (allegedly) 50,000 miles from new. I have only owned the car a month and in that time had it serviced, which included oil & filter change, air filter change, fuel filter change, cam belt change, brake fluid and engine coolant replacement and today changed the glow plugs. The car still seems to take a while to start, but only when starting from cold. -
Suzuki Swift - Gear selection problems. Oil light on 20 Aug 2025 (Forum)
Whilst he was visiting friends last weekend it developed difficulty selecting gears and the yellow oil light came on ( though my son is more likely notice difficulty changing gears than warning lights). He had the sense to check the oil level and this was to just under the max level on the dipstick.
