  • Ford Mondeo 2.0 Tdci 130 bhp - Heat exchanger water pipe 28 Jun 2013 (Forum)
Anyone changed the heat exchanger water pipe that goes from the water pump to the heat exchanger itself (by the oil filter) ? Not the return that goes into the rad. Wondered how difficult it is. I've got a leak !
  • Audi Service Interval 16 Aug 2006 (Forum)
The 2001 Audi A4 is a clever car it tells on the display(spanner icon) the time/miles to its next service. But how does it know when oil, filters, brake fluid etc., have been changed? And what does it mean when the display shows 'dashes' for time and miles not any figures? Brian
  • 'Slick 50' Gearbox Additive 26 Jan 2005 (Forum)
My gearbox on a 306 xtdt '94, having covered 100k is a little 'stiff', especially when cold. I intend to change the transmission oil and at the same time use an additive. Any advice appreciated. Regards Craig
  • Gearbox Trouble 14 Mar 2003 (Forum)
Has done this for a few months and the clutch appears to be fine as is okay in forward gears. What kind of problem is it? Could a gearbox oil change sort it out? Thanks for help.
  • kia Venga 1.4 manual - Clutch replacement 22 Jun 2019 (Forum)
Old plate was almost down to rivets..was the original according to the mechanic. Excellent local indy also changed the sludge that was supposed to be gearbox oil in the price.   Pleasure to drive again! One happy elderly friend.
  • Citroen ZX Diesel Injectors 25 May 2005 (Forum)
I have tried some Millers injector cleaner, but this hasn't sorted the problem out. The car has been recently serviced, and has had all the usual items replaced (fuel filter, oil filter) etc. I suspect the injectors are due for changing - I have read that they usually need changing between 60,000 and 80,000 miles. My car has done about 93k. Does this sound like an injector problem?
  • Car Servicing 31 Mar 2004 (Forum)
I would like advice about car services. I have a Micra year 2000, which I have had for 2 years. I have always just got 6 monthly oil changes, replaced the air filter and spark plugs myself, carried out the rest of the basic checks and had things like brake fluid and coolant changed when required. Do you think that is enough or should the car be put in for a garage service?
  • Rover 200SDI Cambelt Info ? 11 Oct 2002 (Forum)
Also is it something I should just leave a Rover dealership to do or something that a half decent Diesel Service centre should be able to handle (cheaper). I also see that the service intervals are 12000miles. Should I change to the oil every 6000miles though ? Cheers
  • Ford Focus - 1999 ford Focus 1.6 Manual, advice please 8 Jun 2011 (Forum)
I did have a problem with the exhaust a while ago, there was a bit of a blockage, but after having rods put through this seemed to have fixed that particular problem.  Any idea what it might now be, causing the car to burn oil?  Im putting in some engine flush tomorrow, and doing a oil filter change.  Any advice please?
  • Ford Ka - Blown HG or cracked cylinder head? 23 May 2011 (Forum)
Hi all. I am fixing my ka, so far changed oil + coolant + air filter + 4x spark plugs + ICV Spark plugs were the biggest b!tch, rusted to hell in the endura engine and wouldn't budge, took days of vinegar + some brake fluid to get them free without snapping, phew!
  • Peugeot 405 Diesel (1988 - 1996) - Year unknown TD - Fuel starvation - won't idle 22 Oct 2009 (Forum)
The probelm seems to be far worse when the engine is completely cold. When priming you can hear the fuel flowing into the filter chamber. The filter was changed three days ago, and has made no difference. It is running on veg oil/diesel, mixed, but this problem has only recently occurred, after several months of veg oil use. It has a Bosch injector pump, which should tolerate veg oil.
  • Citroen Xantia (1993 - 2000) - 95 1.9td smokes on startup. initial lumpy running 12 Apr 2009 (Forum)
    The smoke is bluish white and apart from that the car drives well,fuel,oil and air filters are new,there is no sludge in the oil or water and it has done 72000 miles.any pointers much appreciated. {subject header amended to include a brief summary of question being asked}
  • Describe your oldest tool and it`s aquisition 20 Sep 2008 (Forum)
I can remember deciding to keep it when aged around 16yrs. As an aside, I can remember peering into the oil filler aged 14yrs on one of those vans and seeing a bed of coal shale like substance with the rockers just visible. Yet it ran for years in that condition, perhaps aided by a bypass oil filter ( never changed) and a weekly pint or so of new oil flooding the rocker box.
  • fabia engine warning - oil overfill 5 Aug 2006 (Forum)
Had my Fabia 1.4 16v in last wednesday for an annual service, mot, brake fluid change at skoda dealer. £350. Used the car little during the week, a couple of miles and this tues went up the road 130 miles or so. A day later a little into the return journey the amber engine warning light came on so I pulled into the services not knowing what it meant.
  • Audi TDI 110 Decline 9 Jun 2004 (Forum)
I run a 97 A4 1.9 TDi SE 110.I purchased the car approx 3 years ago,its mileage was 96k.Its given sterling service with plenty of poke and superb economy since. However in the past few weeks I have noticed the car to be well down on power and torque to what it once was.The mileage is now 165k and since I have owned the car it has had 5k synthetic oil changes and doesn`t use any oil to this date.It also has regular air filter replacement the last one just days ago.It has had regular use of diesel power plus fuel addative and regular italian tune ups. There does however seem to be the beginnings of an oil leak at the front of the engine in the area of the camshaft end/rocker cover and the car has become a bit smokey of late. The question is what could be the cause of the recent decline in performance?
  • A class servicing 6 Sep 2001 (Forum)
The local dealer does not want even to discuss discount on servicing even though under the fairly bulletproof mobilo life warranty he would be likely to have to do the work if anything goes wrong though to date the car has been bullet proof with 82 mpg obtained recently in france!! Or am i missing something?? Also what about changing the engine oil and filter halfway through between services without touching the service countdown device? Or is the synthetic so good and the oil filter so fine on this common rail that i dont need to bother?
  • Clutch on Subaru 4 Jun 2001 (Forum)
Rang my Subaru dealer in the north who is normally expensive who informed me that the clutch change would have been slightly more expensive (as use Subaru bits) but the oil seal is a quick job and wouldn't cost more than £100! (remember main dealer labour costs!) Typical! trying to save money and has cost me a lot more has anybody else had similar problems?

  • Vauxhall Insignia Sports Tourer Petrol - Cylinder Head Gasket Blown? 20 May 2019 (Forum)
Symptom: I had what could be described as "creamy hot chocolate" in the expansion tank so that suggested the oil cooler. Had this changed. Not too different to this on Youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2bCllbBcRcY The sludge has returned and it is suggested that the head gasket could be the culprit.
