Mondeo PowerShift - Higher Mileage Car 27 Apr 2021 (Forum)
I believe these 'boxes need servicing to schedule to remain relaible. My main concern is around the gearbox (even if it has had the oil changes to schedule, which I would confirm before commiting to buying it), is it a valid concern or am I being parnoid? -
Honda Accord - Windscreen lack trim detraching 3 Mar 2021 (Forum)
I took it with mileage of 29 in Feb 2000, it had been sitting on a dealer forecourt for close on six months, so I got a good price. I've always followed Hon John's advice and changed the oil every 5k or six months and the car has never let me down in 173k.The trim that seals the front screen to the body now protrudes at both front top corners. The screen was replaced maybe fifteen years ago. -
Ford Focus (1998 - 2004) - 04 1.6 revving up and down when idle then stalls 27 Oct 2019 (Forum)
When driving and stopping at a set of lights, foot off accelerator and clutch in, the revs start going up and down from about 500 to 1200 then drops lower and stalls, engine restarts fine, and all ok until next set of lights........... the engine does not do this when cold and the idle revs are higher, problem starts when engine is hot....... plugs, airfilter, battery and oil have all been changed...... Anyone any ideas -
90K Astra maintainance 4 Aug 2019 (Forum)
Plus if it keeps going for another few years it means we can afford to keep the beautiful Barchetta. With this in mind, I am changing the oil now every 3k, and the filter every 6k. Apart from the regular service things on the schedule, should I be doing anything more? The car is now being used for more short runs than I would like. -
Micra 52 plate Tempest 1.0L - Micra K11 Timing Chain 49000 miles 5 Feb 2019 (Forum)
I would like to know the symptoms of a worn timing chain or chain guide. I recently bought a Micra and I did an oil change on it yesterday. As I got it to operating temp I noticed a rather loud ticking noise a bit like tappets noise but seemingly from in the block rather than the rocker cover. When the revs are increased it ceases but as soon as it goes back to idle , it comes back and it isn't quiet. -

Renault Laguna Initiale Sports Tourer 2ltr 2006 - Compuetr management problem 21 Feb 2017 (Forum)
My 2006 Renault Laguna Initiale Sports Tourer key-cards are not activating the automatic seat settings for self and wife despite setting the key-cards memory settings separately in the hole and pressing the memory button on the seat and hearing the confirmation tinkle. Everything else works OK. Local garage testing after oil change reset confirms no computer errors. Somebody on this forum somewhere suggested pressing the key-card buttons 20 times to reset everything which seems a bit odd unless it would works or wake the computer from its slumber!! -
Volkswagen Polo IV - Independent garage for VW servicing 27 Mar 2014 (Forum)
Hi, just wondering if anyone had any recommendations on a reliable honestly priced independent garage for servicing a 9 year old polo. I've been getting oil/filter/brake fluid changes at the main dealership (not had anything else done like belts etc so far). but having read through some posts on the forums it looks like i'm probably overpaying at the main dealership, plus i'll be keeping the car until its no longer roadworthy so not worried about full main dealer service history. -
FIAT Ulysse - Warranty Expired 10 Days Ago 2 Aug 2013 (Forum)
Hi, I paid £3700 for a Fiat Ulysse on April 19th from a dealer. The auto gearbox has been slipping for awhile now and my garage booked it in for an oil change which they did today. However things haven't improved and I'vee been told by my garage that the auto gearbox is knackered and will cost £1700 to replace. My 3 month warranty expired 10 days ago. -
Fiesta mk4 diesel - Outer n/s cv joint removal 23 Jul 2013 (Forum)
Is it possible to change the cv joint in situ? I just wondered if while tapping the joint off the driveshaft there is a high possibility of pullingl the shaft out of the inner joint accidently. I don't really want to remove the driveshaft as that would mean buying a kit for the inner joint as well, at least an oil seal and circlip which probably you can't buy seperately, but will enquire. -
Vauxhall Astra 1.7DTI - problem with my engine 28 Apr 2013 (Forum)
the other day i went to start the car, it turned over but wouldn't start. i tried again & it wouldn't turn over at all. it sounded like my starter motor had gone (it had that clicking sound when the starter motor packs in), so i tried to bump start it & still nothing. so i got the starter motor checked & then had it changed. now it turns on the key but the engine isn't turning over, i looked in the oil filler cap & my cams are not turning (i thought my cambelt had snapped :( but it hasn't :s). can any one help with any idea's to what could be wrong because i'm totally pugled! -
Nissan Qashqai 2.0D 2007 Toyota rav4 2.2D 2007. - Nissan Qashqai 2.0D 2007 VS Toyota rav4 2.2D 2007 23 Feb 2013 (Forum)
The car going to be used mainly in the cities or motorways. The main concern is cost of maintenance and services: like casual stuff changing oil, brakes, pads, insurance, cost of tax any relevant. -
Mitsubishi Lancer - High Mileage Mitsubishi Lancer 1.6 55 Plate (450k) 3 Dec 2012 (Forum)
Is it possible that these Mitsubishi (Lancers,Carisma's - of which I own) of covering that sort of mileage without any major work to the engines?? He also added that clutch's last about 75,000 to 85,000 and just to keep changing the oil and filters. With regard to the clutch I don't think that's bad at all considering all the stop start driving taxi's do !! Cheers Mark -
Nissan Micra K12 - When were the cam chains fixed? 18 May 2012 (Forum)
As an "old school" K11 owner, these K12 cam chain stories are disturbing to read. The old K11 chains might get noisy over 100k, but an oil change soon quietened things down. By the time the K12 came out, Nissan had many years of producing reliable chain-drive engines. Must be the influence of Renault... -
Vauxhall Corsa 1.4 SRI Twin Port - Please Help!! Car keeps cutting out! 17 Apr 2012 (Forum)
And it cuts out at least once throughout that trip both to and from work..I have recently put it in to the garage to be looked at and had the follwing things done and tested but still with no joy. Change of oil and rocket cover all cleaned New plugs Air and Fuel Filter Coolent Temp sensor The other thing is is that it is bringing a fault code of P1467 up which it doesnt say what that is? -
Mazda 6 - Sluggish performance 24 Dec 2011 (Forum)
The MPG is slightly down too but this is most likely due to the weather. It had it's last 'full' service 8k miles ago and an oil change 1k miles ago. I have used 'redex fuel injector' in my last 4 tankfuls - hasnt made a single difference I give my car an 'italian tuneup' once a fortnight or so involving 5-10 minutes of around 4k rpm on the motorway Could it just be that the engine it getting old now? -
servicing - Some Good News 31 Oct 2011 (Forum)
Just had my epica diesel serviced at a network Q dealer, (not chevrolet) and service carried out to perfection for £92.50 + parts and oil, a very reasonable £186, and was advised rear left tyre was "stepping".... Hmmmm.. went to my nice tyre fitter who confirmed this was so, went back to dealer who put car on lift, re-checked rear suspension and rear wheel bearings, actually called me in, showed me the setup, showed me nothing visible damaged, result after 25 minutes in workshop, oh "No charge sir", change the tyre if you want when it is convenient. -
Engine longevity 15 Aug 2011 (Forum)
I've got a 99 MkIV Golf 1.8T 20V on 110k motorway miles - & along the lines of a rec from HJ in 1999, I have changed the oil/filter every 5K with Halfords fully synth (and coolant, waterpump and belt every 50K). How long should or could this engine last? It was also used on passat,A3,A4,A6,TT, Leon,Skoda etc. - must be lots of them about - is the turbo fragile? -
BMW 5 Series E60 - Main Dealer Servicing vs Independent Specialist 4 Aug 2011 (Forum)
While I've been happy with the work done by the main dealer, they are rather expensive - £175 for an oil change. An Independent Specialist would be a lot cheaper, but are there any disadvantages? Will it make any difference to the price I'll get when I sell the car (I expect to keep it for at least 2 more years). -
