  • One Stop servicing 5 Sep 2002 (Forum)
I could take it to my usual Audi specialist (not a main dealer, an independent garage) but I know he'll charge me about £120 rather than the £80 of One Stop. For this price, they are offering: Oil and filter change, air filter change, spark plug change (inclusive of parts, labour and VAT). What's the general opinion here: pay the extra for the specialist, or is One Stop OK?? Comments appreciated!
  • Nissan Almera 2003 1.5 petrol - Timing chain change 3 Jun 2014 (Forum)
Looks like I've got to renew the timing chain on one of these. I'm really disappointed as it's only done 48K miles and had its oil changed every year and never done more than 6K between changes. I'm waiting for a code reader to confirm my diagnosis before I start pulling it apart. I've got hold of a Haynes and there's quite a procedure requiring a 3bar air line pressure applied to the variable valve timing in order to lock it during dismantling.
  • VW Passat (Should I Change) 29 Jun 2007 (Forum)
I have had issues with notchy gears on the car for about 8 months. In the 8 months the garage has upgraded the oil in the gearbox, changed the gearbox and finally changed the dual mass flywheel and replaced the clutch. All under warranty thankfully. The car seems fine now and I like the car but I have lost confidence in the car I am just waiting for something else to go wrong.
  • Audi A4 B6 2.0 Fsi petrol 2003 - Cylinder head noises at startup 7 Nov 2012 (Forum)
There is no guarantee the inlet manifold would go back on with the oil takeoff fitted. Solutions might involve a new oil pump, new pressure retention valve, cleaning the pickup strainer, or what? Lots of maybes, any advice on how to narrow down the problem without a huge bill for diagnosis?
  • Focus diesel woes 30 Sep 2006 (Forum)
She then took it to her local garage, a village outfit she has used for years, and they drained some of the oil out again. She asked them to find out why the light was on. They kept the car for a month or so, changing the oil pump and having, they said, to wait for a special Ford tool to do some part of the job.

  • Ford Mondeo III (2000 - 2007) - 2005 TDCi (2litre / 130bhp) - Engine running on 2 Apr 2008 (Forum)
Can't say it happens all the time. NB: I'm not confusing this with the HVAC flaps and motors which seem to sometimes change position when the power is switched off. Scared it was maybe some oil leakage through the turbo bearing seals, but since engine uses virtually no oil, think I can discount this. Searched forum, thinking I had read about this before, but couldn't find relevant posts.
  • Golf Service Indicator 8 Dec 2005 (Forum)
There are apparantly 2 other reports as follows: IN 02 which means that additional work is needed and IN OL meaning the oil needs changing. The handbook doesn't state whether these indicators are just time/mileage based or if they are actually monitoring the condition of the oil etc. It tells you how to reset them, which seems a bit simplistic.
  • Starting cycle. 3 Aug 2004 (Forum)
It is reluctant to start from restart and cuts off on first attempt in 60% of cases. What could this be? The battery is fine, the leads are fine, the air filter is new and the oil is fresh. The mileage is only 21,000 miles and the bike is 2 years old. Also, how many miles should I expect this engine to last me with regular oil changes and frequent servicing. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

  • Does the 2010 BMW 320d use a timing chain or cam belt? 31 May 2022 (Ask HJ)

  • Any - Cabin (pollen) air filters 10 Mar 2022 (Forum)
This will seem like 'teaching Granny to suck eggs' to many back-roomers, but I thought it was worth mentioning. It doesn't get the attention changing oil and filter does (and is not so essential) but it's worth doing for a few quid. I changed the filter on my last car, an 07 Lacetti. £12 from a local factor, took about 15 mins and required a screwdriver.

  • Audi A4 Cabriolet - Strange smell through car vents 31 Oct 2019 (Forum)
It seems very strong when the car is stood at idle, when it’s on the go I can barely smell anything. I have put some engine cleaner in and about to get the oil and filter changed again but I am not sure that’s going to fix it. I have spent a small fortune recently fixing an oil leak, changing rocker cover gasket, new front exhaust pipe , new timing belt and water pump (not to mention a new clutch) This problem of an interior smell through the vents has been there all along with none of the above work making any difference This morning the EML light came on and the code showing is PO171 engine running lean.
  • SEAT Ibiza III - Not satisfied with car service ! 13 Aug 2019 (Forum)
[endif]--> Hi folks My wife took our 2011 Seat Ibiza for a full service at the local dealers from where we originally  bought the car from. They changed the oil and oil filter but definitely not the spark plugs, although they charged us for all 3 items. A few days later I took the car and showed it to a reliable mechanic (a friend of a friend) who confirmed that the spark plugs have not been changed because he can see the old burnt out ones still in the engine.
