  • Ford Fiesta Saloon - Heater problems/blowing cold 26 Jan 2014 (Forum)
The problem: Heater blowing cold air, radiator cold. A few weeks back there was oil in the header tank; the oil cooler was leaking (pin hole, but what a leak !) so I  changed that; I had the system flushed and new coolant put in. But now, the heater is just blowing cold air ( thought it was air locked at first but no) .
  • passat 2.0 2003 - crankcase vent pipe 18 Jan 2011 (Forum)
Hi, I have purchased a 2.0 passat and i have covered 500 miles in it. Over the last few days the engine noise has got louder, yesterday i was driving home when the low oil warning light came on,on pulling the dipstick it showed only a small amount which i topped up to the correct level. After topping up i took the plastic cover which sits over the coil packs and found that someone had severed the crankcase pipe at the point where it joins the engine and where it joins the air pipe, at this point they had wrapped insulating tape over the opening.Could any one tell me why they would have done this and would it be the reason why it has used all of the oil , i should also say that the car had a oil change before it was handed over to me.
  • Falsely stamping service books? 8 Mar 2009 (Forum)
Help I need some clarification. The company I work for has started to carry out budget services that only include an oil and oil filter change and the car is checked over. No other parts are fitted including the sump plug. It is named as the dealership service not that brand so there should be no mistake that it is to the manufacturer's specifications.
  • Vectra C noisy tappets on idle 31 May 2007 (Forum)
Hi Guys I have a 2003 1.8 Petrol Vectra and to be honest the engine on idle (albeit in close surrounds like a block of garages) is really starting to sound like a slightly quieter version of an old pushrod engine from the Mk1 Fiesta! (Very distinct sound)... Anyway , its done 31k miles, oil last changed at 21k by Vauxhall using 10w40. Next service is due in December coming up. I can't believe that it sounds so ropey - its a modern multivalve petrol engine for crying out loud. Oil is on the max level (and checked it according to manf.specs i.e get it to temp then turn off and wait 5 mins then dip/check).It doesn't use any oil that I can see.
  • Air Con Service, VW dealer ? 7 Apr 2004 (Forum)
Thing is i loathe main dealers, and would prefer to go to halfords or somewhere like that, but how does the 2nd hand car market view a non dealer stamp ??? Also, want to get the oil changed as i had no idea what oil was in it, and there was an unopened litre of 10/40 which i have topped it up with, but i want to put a decent oil in and then i can continue to use that. Whats the best without going too overboard, btw its the 1.8 20v non turbo (125bhp) Ta Andy
  • Slick 50 style oil additives 4 Jan 2002 (Forum)
Hi all I have just bought a 3 yr 75k old 1.8 16v Ecotec Vectra and intend to do an interim oil and filter change (Yes cam belt has just been done, yes I know about all the usuall gripes... some pepole like them, get over it!) On all my previous cars, Toyotas, Reanults, VW's.. I have added slick 50 to the engine at a similar mileage and have been very happy.
  • When does the cam belt on my car need changed? 11 Jun 2018 (Ask HJ)

  • Why doesn't Vauxhall's service plan include brake fluid? 6 Apr 2013 (Ask HJ)
I wonder why a pre-paid Vauxhall Servicing Plan would exclude brake fluid? I've spoken to Vauxhall "Customer Care" whose attitude was that it is a matter...
  • Hyundai Santa Fe engine failure - what are my rights? 2 Apr 2015 (Ask HJ)
In May 2011 I bought a 2006 Hyundai Santa Fe 2.2 automatic. I have kept up the maintenance schedule and driven it carefully, with 94,000 miles on the clock....
  • Audi A6 Avant blowing white smoke 29 Jul 2016 (Ask HJ)
I recently bought a 2007 Audi A6 Avant 2.0 TDI. It had previously been sitting idle for a month or two, but drove fine on the trip home. However, after...
  • Audi A3 2.0 TDi 170PS DSG - a review 30 Jul 2007 (Forum)
The car is fitted with Pirelli P Zero Rosso tyres - 225 45 17. The car comes with a top up of Mobile EPS oil - their latest fully synthetic oil which is suitable for VAG cars requiring 507 grade oil. The oil cap still says ?Audi recommend Castrol Oils? though! As a result of this change you no longer get a Castrol case for the oil which sticks to the boot side using Velcro (I should have kept the one form the old car!)
  • '04 Punto ATF change 27 Aug 2006 (Forum)
However, I actually agree with HJ's advice as this would seem the best option to remove any pieces of carp in the system. If I ask the dealership to change the fluid, how would I know for sure that they had done so? Is it an easy job...? With oil I can see the difference; ATF seems to always remain that fresh red colour... Suggestions are most welcome.
  • Mondeo TD "improvement" after oil change 3 Sep 2006 (Forum)
As other Mondeo TD's I've tried have all been much the same, it was a lot of car for what I paid for it, I can drive around it easily enough, and I like the car in other respects so it's never bothered me too much. And so it has been until last weekend when I did the routine oil and filter change. I normally use the cheapest 10W/40 semi synthetic diesel oil I can find as long as it has a half recognisable brand. This time however, I got a good deal on some fully synthetic 5W/40 stuff from Halfords (which I posted in the General board to let others know).
  • Mazda 6 - Mazda 6 engine failure due to oil blockage 3 Oct 2017 (Forum)
It was due a major but I did a minor due to being short on cash. The minor did include an oil change and oil filter and they did not saying would void my warranty. They also said it wouldn't have found this issue. I am now waiting for the warranty company inspector to review the car. The cost of a partial engine would be £6700 at retail who his out of the question for me to cover!
  • Mondeo TD (Endura DE) oil recommendation 25 Jul 2006 (Forum)
I have just discovered that I have been filling my Mondeo TD with the "wrong" oil and would appreciate your views. With the Endura DE being a conventional, old tech diesel, at the last two services I have just been out and bought a good quality 10W/40 semi synthetic diesel oil wherever I could find a decent deal on it (used Havoline and Comma respectively).
  • Volkswagen Passat (2005 - ) - 2005 2.0TDI Oil Pressure Warning Light 13 Nov 2008 (Forum)
The warning doesn't come on straight away, and only shows when I move the car. Almost all that I've read about the oil pressure warning online, following a Google search, suggest that it might be a simple case of needing an oil change. Indeed, the Service in xxx miles indicator had been showing since the start of last week, and finally turned to SERVICE NOW just 200 or so miles before the STOP OIL PRESSURE warning showed.
  • Ford Fiesta 1.3 2002 - Clutch Problem 4 Aug 2013 (Forum)
I have just replaced replaced the clutch on my Fiesta as it was slipping now and again. I had no problem selecting gears but thought that I had better change it before it got any worse. I now have trouble getting it in to gear and reverse is impossible to engage. I changed the gearbox oil to Castrol Syntrans Multivehicle & bled and refilled the hydraulic system with DOT4 I did not change the release bearing as that seemed to be working ok.
  • BMW 3-Series E46 (1998 - 2005) - 2005 2.0 Engine noise 4 Sep 2008 (Forum)
3-series 2005 E46 Touring 46kmiles 318i exhibits a 'metallic clatter/chatter' at warm idle is this normal? No different after oil change. Also I find that at low RPM, circa2000, noticeable when changing up, the car tends to lack power. It takes careful operation to avoid a stutter when changing up. Top end above 4000rpm goes very well, is this normal for this car?
  • Pug 306 turbo diesel-advice on pollution 6 Mar 2004 (Forum)
The time is approaching and I wonder if any of you experts can give legal advice on how to help it through the test, apart from the obvious engine oil/filter change. Also, the cambelt has done over 30,000 miles and needs changing. I dont want to tackle this job myself so what do you think would be a fair price to get it changed at an independent gagage?
