  • Toyota Yaris (1999 - 2005) - 99 1.0 Sticky accelerator 20 Nov 2008 (Forum)
My daughter has just bought a Yaris and when in use, ie. normal driving, it is fine, but after stopping and taking her foot of the accelerator, upon using it again it momentarily sticks. The mechanism is fairly easy to see and I've squirted it with WD40 but no change. It has a fair amount of sideways play-is this usual or could it be wear? (car's done 111k) I can see the cable disappearing into the bulkhead-can I put oil on the cable? I don't want to make it worse.
  • Citroen Xsara Picasso (2000 - 2010) - 2003 1.6 Socket size for sump plug ? 30 Jul 2008 (Forum)
An odd request, but I don't know what size socket (if it is a hexagonal plug even) for my daughter's Citroen Xsara Picasso 1.6 petrol. I want to change the oil for her, but until I get the ramps here, and the car, I can't have a look. I'll probably need another socket as our set was stolen. It would save me an extra journey if I could find out what I need beforehand.

  • Citroen Xsara Picasso (2000 - 2010) - Auction valuation 12 Nov 2007 (Forum)
Its a 51 plate and has done 120,000 miles. It has a full Citroen service history (with additional oil changes, if that makes any difference). The Aircon doesn't work and there are faint handprints on the body - it's met Blue. The interior is free from damage or any visible wear. It's tax and Mot'd until Jan 2008.
  • 3yr old/8,000mls MB CLK - never serviced 8 Nov 2006 (Forum)
Cars usually under 3 yrs old and fairly high mileage However a 3 yr old CLK convertible is for sale and the service book is pristine but has no stamps in 3 yrs! 8,000mls and no oil change! I have heard of long life servicing but can a car go 3 yrs without a service and still be a good buy? The are wanting approx £18,000 for this CLK 240 cabriolet
  • What would you do? (Selling car, fault) 2 Jun 2006 (Forum)
I'm tempted to just whack it up on eBay, where any old piece of rubbish seems to get a good price, describe the fault and just see what happens. Other than that the car is fine. I've changed the oil every 6k, etc.
  • The future of luxury cars 14 Mar 2006 (Forum)
Will this continue to be the case? Will the government make harsher changes to taxes to motivate you out of that 10 year old 7 series and into a newer small car? Some industry planners have mentioned that the UK luxury car market will shrink by 25% over the next few years.
  • Good Service from a fast fit garage 3 Mar 2006 (Forum)
Decide this morning that I want an oil and filter change for my TDi Passat. On the off chance I call into my local branch of the well known fast fit chain and enquire, expecting to laugh at their prices. Well, I didn't laugh. £23.99 for filter and all the Mobil semi-synth it needed.
  • Rover 214 sluggish 14 Nov 2005 (Forum)
Drove her 214 for the first time in a while the other day and feels really sluggish compared to what it used to be like. I had the plugs, distributer cap and rotar arm done in March and an oil and filter change in July so it should be fairly well tuned up. Powerloss is not that significant but doesnt pick up as well as it did or have a spurt of life at 4500 revs either! Is it just getting old, in need of air filter or is there anything else anyone can point to??
  • 1998 Primera How do I keep it going 15 Aug 2005 (Forum)
It is has now done 93,500 miles and ticks over like it did when I bought it in Jan 2001.I get it serviced yearly and change the oil about every 5000 miles. Has anyone got any tips about what I should do to keep it running ?? All tips welcome..
  • Engine Life 24 Jan 2005 (Forum)
Hi guys, I like to drive quite 'adventurously', and I'm just wondering how much this affects the life/condition of the engine. At the moment, I change the oil every 5000 miles, always let the engine warm up before really revving it, and drive normally for a bit afterwards to help it cool down. But of course, car engines aren't race engines and can't simply be ripped apart after every drive and rebuilt!
  • Vauxhall WinterCare - worth it? 2 Dec 2004 (Forum)
Or is it a complete waste of time and/or money? FYI, I have the car serviced at the Vx dealer every 10k miles and change the oil and filter every 5k miles.
  • Renew Warranty? Or not? 21 Nov 2003 (Forum)
What a wonderful machine! I resent having to pay £250.00++ for a renewed warranty, which means I would need to have my oil changed by the local indie. But I do fear something very expensive going bang or just ("silence") on my '97 2.5. Steering ram? ECU? HP pump? But, there again, the definitions of "mechanical failure" made by Warranty Holdings are restricted to things actually breaking.
  • Peugeot 206 Pollen Filter 4 Jun 2003 (Forum)
I recently took my wife\'s 2 year old 206 back to the main dealer for its first bi-annual service. The oil and filter were changed but the air and pollen filters were not. When I asked about these I was told that they did not require replacement. The service cost £125. I know from experience, with my own car, that the pollen filter becomes sufficiently blocked after a year to need replacing.
  • Rover 218TD - diesel injector pump 28 Aug 2002 (Forum)
:) I've been told that injector pumps aren't cheap - £200+ was quoted. It has to be done, I know that, but what else should I also change, apart from cam belt, vacuum pump belt, oil and the filters? Very much a novice - this will be a garage job! Just want to prepare my bank account for the shock! :) Thanks, Chris
  • Mini 8 May 2002 (Forum)
BM went in this morning (before being nearly side-swiped) for oil and filter change. Whilst I waited (an hour and a b***** half) they loaned me a Mini. What a cracking little motor - best thing since ready mixed semolina. I'm sure they gave me this knowing I'd be back for more.
  • Valves - solution and identification 27 Aug 2001 (Forum)
Further to my last post..... I have changed the spark plugs, to slightly hotter ones, still NGK though. This will hopefully stop the misfiring which I now suspect was causing the juddering. It also revealed that in 1 of the back 3 cylinders some oil was leaking into the plug and cylinder area.
  • VAG TDi engine reliability 1 Jul 2001 (Forum)
Has anyone got any tips about maintenance, that goes further than Audi and Haynes manuals? I'm already doing 5,000 mile oil changes like the last owner. I plan to keep it a long time if it's viable so preventative maintenance is well worthwhile. I'm looking for a good garage in either the Harrogate or Carlisle area, I live in one town and work in the other.
  • Citroen C5 - Citroen C5 2.0 Hdi engine failure 26 Sep 2014 (Forum)
He thinks that the oil pump failed on the car and there was no oil pressure in the engine causing substantial damage to the pistons as there was no oil.  He noted that the car was one of the C5 models that was supposed to be recalled to have it's oil pump replaced by Citroen, and he contacted the local dealer to confirm this.
