  • Audi A4 B6 - Time to replace my A4 B6 Tdi 2003 6 Jul 2019 (Forum)
But I'm finding it difficult to find a car to replace it with because of the fabulous performance of the PD 130 bhp engine and general refinement. Short listed cars are Rover 75 and any diesel without a DPF with a budget of £5000. Had the new cars and don't want to return . A day testing various models didn't inspire me. Any ideas please ?
  • Volvo XC90 - Non regulated Business Hire Contract Termination 11 Jan 2019 (Forum)
Subsequently the car has developed an emissions fault, warning light and has to go back to dealer (not the DPF). The dealer has made three attempts to fix under warranty, but has failed. I wish to reject the car, but I understand that I won't be covered by consumer law, or finance as it's an unregulated hire agreement.
  • Honest John's Motoring Agony Column 27-01-2018 Part 1 30 Jan 2018 (Forum)
Obviously diesel may fall into the sump whether or not the engine is turned on, but bear in mind that a diesel stops because fuel stops being injected, so turning it off during a cycle will be trivial in comparison. My Mazda 6 oil level rises irrespective of driving style, and DPF regeneration varies between160-230 km seemingly irrespective of driving style, so it is crazy to drive another 15km every time it wants to regenerate.
  • Ford Focus Estate 2008 1.6tdci - ENGINGE MALFUNCTION- NO FAULT CODE 3 May 2017 (Forum)
Hi! Recently fixed all the major problems with my ford, Dpf, Additive module, Turbo charger, Controll valve for tubo(overboost situatoion), and EGR circuit low wich was given by Blocked Intercooler by-pass valves. I still have a problem that seems to be coming form nowhere.
  • Kia Carens - 'safe' motoring 5 Apr 2016 (Forum)
So, I'm considering chopping it in for something a little simpler, and definitely not diesel so there's no DMF or DPF etc. I no longer do enough miles to justify diesel, but I do prefer how they drive.   I'm attracted to Kia, mainly for value and the warranty. In particular, the Carens 1.6GDi. A 2014 model with c.20k can be had from a franchised dealer for c.
  • £4.5k, which family car to keep long term? 2 Dec 2015 (Forum)
I really want a diesel, as I love the power delivery and fuel economy, but I am scared of buying because of the dreaded four (DMF, DPF, Injectors and Turbos). I really don’t fancy a gutless petrol that’s bad on fuel either. I don’t have a spare £1000 in my back pocket for a diesel repair bill either. Not a good situation!
  • Vw Golf mk5 - Vw Golf mk5 boost issues 5 Sep 2015 (Forum)
Having boost issues in lower gears where the turbo struggles to kick in but once it does it works fine and works fine in higher gears.  Had turbo actuator replaced,  egr replaced,  dpf checked.  Started a little self diagnosis today.   Here is a little video of what it is doing   https://youtu.be/-we_2hbi6kM  Needs sound but,  to clarify,  start of video the turbo actuator is unplugged.
  • Reliabilie and economical - Buying a used car for taxi used 23 Aug 2015 (Forum)
Hi everyone I'm having a hard time choosing a next workhorse with negative feedbacks about diesel cars manufactured since 2009 due to its DPF while I'm running more than 25000 a year mostly town driving, I'm not sure if petrol will be a good idea. I'm driving a 1.9 passat with 5 speed at the moment and it never lets me down. I only have 7000 budget for a used car but it has to be atleast 7 years old.
  • Ford Focus 1.6 TDCI 2006 - Exhaust gas temperature sensor 23 Jun 2015 (Forum)
Does anyone know how I could test the exhaust gas temperature sensor on my Ford Focus 1.6 TDCI 2006 plate? It sits in the cat/dpf box just after the manifold. I'm suspecting it could have failed as when I put a meter across it it reads open circuit. There's two wires on its connector, one receives 5 volts (from the ECU) and the other zero.
  • Skoda superb 2.0 diesel - Skoda Superb 2.0 spluttering at low rpm 1 Feb 2014 (Forum)
I bought my superb in May of last year with 50k on the clock. A few weeks after buying it it started spluttering at low rpm. Shortly after the DPF light came on. I naturally regenerated it but the fair came back. I had it regenerated at the garage and within 2 miles of the garage the problem was back. The light has only come on once but the symptoms keep happening.
  • Ford Mondeo 2.0 TDCi Powershift Titanium Auto 5 - Have I made a mistake buying an automatic diesel? 30 Jan 2014 (Forum)
Since then I have done 7000 miles, including approx two 30 mins journey per week, and the occasional long journey. I thought this would be enough to avoid DPF problems, but it looks like I need a new one. Clearly I have to fix but should I 1. Retain and make sure once per week I drive for min 15 mins on manual and keep revs up or 2.Sell and switch back to petrol?
  • Any - Best LPG system and car 23 Mar 2013 (Forum)
After many days of reading and deliberation I have opted to go down the LPG route. Reason being I heard diesel cars to have issues with DPF's and petrol cars just not giving me the best MPG for my needs. I do around 20K a year, mainly motorway mileage but I'm looking for advise on which are the best systems out there. I hear BRC and PRINS are the best.
  • VW Crafter - High Oil Consumption 4 Jan 2013 (Forum)
We have a 2008 VW Crafter van, with 120K on the clock.  Our DPF caused it to go into limp mode and it wouldn't regenerate, so the garage suggested removing it - which they did.  We continued to see a lot of black smoke, and returned the van to the garage, who diagnosed a turbo issue.
  • Diesel Cars - HJ's Car Reviews 14 Jan 2011 (Forum)
I've been thinking of buying a diesel although my annual mileage does not justify it but i enjoy the power delivery. However I am put off by the problems logged with DPF, DMF, blown turbos, injector issues etc. and going for the prestige German marques or Japanese does not make for any better reading! Is it the  case that many people have relatively little problems and those who do make a song and dance about it?
  • Mazda CX-7 (2007 - ) - Engine emission at low revs 30 Jun 2010 (Forum)
The thing that concerns me is that I see nothing similar with other cars on the road. Have read the discussion thread on Mazda 6 DPF filter problems and am concerned that this could be something similar although it is a petrol DISI engine. Anybody have any thoughts?
  • Mazda5 or Ford S-Max 6 Jun 2010 (Forum)
Has anyone got any thoughts on these models?  I think we'd prefer to stick to petrol models (too many issues with DPFs on both of these) in either the sport/furano or titanium spec. Are there any alternatives to these (7 seats but not full size mpvs)  I'd also prefer steer clear of the french offerings. Budget is up to 10k Thanks Rev
  • Mazda MPV - What's making that noise under the bonnet 12 May 2010 (Forum)
It happened this morning and I stopped to check that it wasn't the radiator fans coming on, and it wasn't. I know this car shares the same engine as the Mazda 6 which has the DPF regeneration thingimibob and I wondered if it was connected to that. There's no indication of anything malfunctioning at all, just an odd noise and there's nothing in the owners manual about it at all.
