Full Service History? 5 May 2003 (Forum)
"Just had a full service,Sir" Service record stamped both for this service and last years. I checked the air filter and plugs and both had not been changed. (The air filter looks like it has never been changed) I am concerned that the oil and filter may also have been missed as there is no sign of the drain plug having been recently disturbed. I have not, as yet, looked at the brakes, although as the vehicle is of fairly low mileage, I don't expect any horrors. -
VW Polo 2018 95 PS - Front bumper replacement 1 Apr 2024 (Forum)
I could have a local bodyshop do it all, or buy the bumper myself, pay them to spray it, then pay a very good local indie garage to fit it. The local chap did some work on my suspension recently and fixed an oil leak without charge. I had seen some oil on my drive, so that was kosher. And a year back the VW garage said the rear brakes needed replacing, he took it in, didn’t change them, said they had more than 50% left. -
Renault Grand Scenic MK III 2010 - APPROX repair / diagnostic costs in this list 1 Apr 2023 (Forum)
* Very loud cracking doors - Door strap checks? and likely replacements of parts to 4 doors. * Oil and filter change. * Replacement 'hands free' key card. * Fog and / or water test to establish water ingress issues evidenced in two doors, beneath the underfloor passenger storage box (and possibly the dash area) * Brake pedal cover replacement. -
Peugeot 2008 - First service, lamb to slaughter 30 Oct 2020 (Forum)
For the first time in over forty years I have been obliged to book a 'service'. As far as I can tell it involves about thirty quid's worth of oil (3.5 litres, which actually doesn't need changing as it's only done 5,000 miles), an oil filter (about a fiver) and a few minutes worth of checks. Arbury Motors have quoted me £200 - " the prices are fixed by Peugeot". -
VW 1.2 Polo 54 plate 70,000 miles - Engine management light on 3 Nov 2016 (Forum)
I know these 3 cylinder engines suffer from number 3 miss fire due to sticky valves but you get the jerky tick over normally so I'm wondering if it's the pre cat lambda sensor. I change the oil as someone said give it a new oil service and plugs I did this and it ran ok for few weeks but the lights back on. I have had it plugged in and it has fault codes for mis Fire on cylinder, low battery drive and oxygen failure so fitted new battery I'm now fairly convinced it maybe the lambda sensor as the engine ticks and runs fine but the light stays on. -

Triumph Stag V8 - Sticking Piston Rings 5 Oct 2013 (Forum)
If I then change the plugs it's good for anothe 50 miles, but is still smoky and has significant breathing from the dipstick and oil filler cap. It may be that the engine needs opened up, but this hasn't crept up gradually, which makes me think it's the result of being parked-up for a long time. -
Volvo v70XC auto petrol 2001Y - Rear diff bearing noise and auto box fluid 11 Nov 2010 (Forum)
Hello - Recently had my latest in whole string of V70s written off in accident and decided to try the xc model, 2001 Yreg, 98k, good history and condition. Bearing type noise from rear, not power on/off dependant and suspect diff as evidence of oil leak from front of diff. Topped up oil, but no real improvement in noise and leakage increased. Quoted locally 4 hours labour and £1200 for new diff, which is obviously out of the question for this age of car, can you recommend a good company to remove/rebuild/refit, or exchange swop? -
Vauxhall Vectra Arctic II 1.8 16v 1999 (T) - Sudden jolt & engine warning light then stall 8 Sep 2010 (Forum)
Recently had an expensive MOT involving emmissions associated with major oil problems, namely the oil b*****ing the engine up as no-one saw fit to change it for years! Now, 3 weeks after getting that sorted and the car running smoothly, it's started to feel juddery while accelerating and today, twice, it suddenly "jolted", the engine management light came on, the revs went up to 4-5000 briefly, then it stopped. -
Vauxhall Astra G Diesel (1998 - 2004) - '00 1.7dti Intermittant high speed running problem 13 Dec 2009 (Forum)
After lifting off the throttle and then letting the engine have an easy time of it, the light goes out and it goes back to normal. The engines done 229,000 miles, uses no oil, doesnt rattle, has enough power and is serviced regularly. The fault codes were read and didnt show anything up as obviously the problem dissapears at slow speed. All filters, oil changed 1 week ago and its still there.......anyone with any ideas please. -
Vauxhall - 00 2.8d Monavo blue smoke soon after start up. 2 Sep 2007 (Forum)
I have just brought the vehicle and treating it to a diet of good quality fuel and "redex" fuel system cleaner. Is there anything I can do. I've just had an oil change new filter done. Vehicle is a Vauhxall Movano van with a 2.8 TDI engine, done 138K. I see you can get these "smoke reducing" liquids from Halfords and other motor places, that you put in with the engine oil. -
omega 2.0 engine 26 Nov 2004 (Forum)
hi folks , I have been searching all day for some where i can get a 2 liter engine for my omega, i brought it a month ago and it was running great but had 1 months mot so got it cheap, i tried to mot it today and it failed on emitions, it smokes a bit at start up and idles erraticly the garage told me the engine has had it , i got it compression tested this after noon and was told 2 pots have low compression, then the guy turned around and told me he would part-ex my car for £500 against any car on his fore court which sounded dodgy to me so am not sure about what he said now, i did an oil change 2 weeks ago and the oil was ok no water or coolant. have read the conversations and am thinking about the engine centre in stratford london , has any one used them and what are they like can i trust them , i live in cambridgeshire if you know any where else better, cheers, -
Vauxhall Corsa B - Low Compression + Running Terrible 7 Sep 2012 (Forum)
Checked throttle position sensor using Opcom and all seems well there Last summer I serviced it... fuel, oil, air filters, spark plugs, new oil & brake pads Changed HT leads So I ran an compression test the other day and got the following results in bar: 1 -> 5.9 2 -> 6.1 3 -> 6.2 4 -> 6.0 According to the manual the compression ratio is 10.0:1 so seemigly you multiply by 1.38 to get your ideal compression ratio which would be 13.8? -
Mazda 6 - Gear trouble and leaking gearbox 10 Nov 2011 (Forum)
The combined (I presume) brake and clutch fluid reservoir is just under the max mark so no obvious loss of clutch fluid so far. Could leaking gear oil cause problems in selecting gears and what could cause gear oil to leak - a dodgy seal/gasket or anything more serious ? I'm pretty sure that the gear oil was changed at the last (5 year) service. -
VW Sharan 1.9 TDI 1999 - VW Sharan 1.9 TDI fuel smell making us ill :-( 22 Jul 2010 (Forum)
Since i bought it, the vw every so often has been giving off like an unburnt/exhaust diesel smell which is coming into the cab and making us feel sick. So far I have got the garage to:- 1. change the cabin/pollen, air, fuel, oil filters and oil. 2. checked the mpv underside, including exhaust for any issues - none found! 3. jet blasted and cleaned any oil/dirt/grease from the engine. -
SAAB 900 (1993 - 1998) - 97 2.0 Cam chain noise at only 50k! 30 Jan 2010 (Forum)
I had thought being chain cam driven this would be something that would last the life of the engine. Its had a load of oil changes in that time. Last Sunday, I started the car and they was a distinct clatter from the engine, I opened the hood and you could here a metalic clanking, it had to be the cam chain, nothing else could make that sound, I drove to work and engine it responded as normal, I had the window down in case it got really bad. -
Ford fiesta mk6 2007 stiff gears when cold 23 Mar 2021 (Forum)
If I hold the clutch down and put it into a gear it feels notchy but when I take it out of the gear and back into the gear again with the clutch still down it goes in a lot smoother. I have changed the gearbox oil using castrol 75w90 which is recommended in the manual. What could be the problem?
