  • Ford Mondeo - Ford Mondeo Mk3 1.8 Excessive oil useage 27 Feb 2011 (Forum)
I put a new exhaust on it 2 years ago but the rear box has rotted internally again due to the oil so possibly being chucked thro there. There is no smoke when running unless its a cold day - could be moisture in exhaust.  I changed the air filter and plugs today - I put new plugs in about 45k ago so they where due - however no real signs of oil on them just carbon build up and also I shone LED tourch down plug holes and tops of pistons just carbonised a bit.
  • Matra Murena 2.2 - noise on start-up 22 May 2007 (Forum)
As the engine warms up, the noise disappears, and in regular driving the engine sounds smooth and normal all the way up to the red line. One suggestion I've had is that the oil non-return valve may not be working properly (may have stuck) - so that when garaged the oil all drains back to the sump, and thus on starting there's no oil in the block (hence the noise) until it warms up and the pump circulates the oil.
  • Ford Fiesta (2002 - 2008) - How to make an engine last: advice sought. 4 Feb 2010 (Forum)
Had it from new, and is a fantastic car. I would like to see it last 200k+ miles. I don't know whether to: a) Increase oil changes to 6k using Ford (or equiv) 5w-30 semi b) Use fully synth oil for 12k service. c) Carry on with 5W-30 semi at 12k d) None of the above I'm playing it 'by the book' till the warranty expires.

  • 1997 MkI Toledo Auto gearbox 9 Oct 2006 (Forum)
All that I can find is a small tube with a blank cover over it. Does anybody know how to check the gearbox oil?, as it seems its been modified without updating the owners manual. Also any advice on how to change, refill and what type of oil (dexron II or III) the gearbox would use? Many thanks for any help!
  • Toyota Corolla Diesel Sump 21 Aug 2006 (Forum)
Hi, My trusty Toyota Corolla M Reg has a hole in the engine sump approx 3mm wide which the engine oil has all drained out on to the floor. I first noticed this when changing the oil about 3 weeks ago. Tried ringing round for a second hand one but no joy and new one is 200 pound of which I am a bit reluctant to pay as the car isnt worth much more than that.
  • Sump plug washer size - Ford HCS engine 18 Apr 2005 (Forum)
Hi I'm going to be doing an oil change on a mates car on Monday. Now without actually taking the oil plug off first, does anyone know the size of the nylon washer? I'd normally go to my Ford dealer for filter and washer, but I've already got a filter so it's not worth a seperate trip.
  • Focus gearbox 8 Nov 2001 (Forum)
They assured me that aside from the noise it isn't a serious problem and should not cause any grief down the line, so I opted to save my hard-earned and live with it. I was wondering though whether it would be worthwhile having the gearbox oil changed, possibly for synthetic oil?
  • Volkswagen Golf IV - White smoke from exhaust 14 Oct 2010 (Forum)
The trader said they couldnt find ANY white smoke coming from the exhaust so they just done a basic engine service, doing an oil change, new leads and plugs and a new air filter. When I questioned that none of those things would be a cause of excess oil being burnt they said the air filter was clogged up and this would cause it?!
  • Vauxhall Corsa B (1993 - 2000) - 95 1.4 Can too much oil in engine cause HG failure 18 Aug 2008 (Forum)
Hi all, just found this site and hoping someone here can help us out.. I took my g/f's Corsa to a garage to get it MOT'd last weds, passed no probs so I asked them to change the engine oil while it was there. On saturday the car stalled and there was oily water spilling out from a hole in the rad and smoke coming out from under the bonnet. I lifted the bonnet and thought it was engine oil everywhere, so after checking the oil level I found there was way too much oil in it.

  • Running In 29 Dec 2001 (Forum)

  • Good luck,gd management or gd Toyota ? 5 Oct 2003 (Forum)
At 81K miles it's still on original clutch, gearbox, exhaust, battery, pads and shoes (yes really). I had it new from a supersite for £12K. In 6 yrs it's had three Mobil 1 oil changes (DIY) per year, a cambelt change at 54K and is on its third set of Michelin tyres. It's had one new headlamp bulb, a new backlight of the dash clock, and a few sets of wipers.Apart from the cambelt change and MOTs, it's never been near a garage.
