Nissan Road Tests

Imagine the perfect afternoon. The Cotswolds. Clear blue skies. Open top-sportscar. A beautiful girl in the passenger seat. And 300bhp under your right foot. Could it have been the combination that made me like the Nissan 350Z Roadster so much? Or was it the car?

In the pre-brifing to testing the Nissan 370Z coupe I learned a fact I'd been unaware of.
Wed, 08 Apr 2009
Daniel Harrison loved the 370Z Roadster. HJ had mixed feelings about it. Maybe it's just HJ getting old.

For 2003, Nissan has made a lot of detail improvements to its handsome Almera hatchbacks. And, since the launch was 300 miles away near the Sunderland factory, thinking of killing two spuggies with one clem, I borrowed an Almera Tino MPV to get me there and back.

You might take one look at the Nissan Cube and decide it’s an oddball of strictly limited appeal. And you’d be wrong. Because, since its first incarnation in 1998, Nissan has sold a million of them.

The GT-R might be approaching its tenth birthday, but Nissan shows few signs of retiring its race track veteran. Instead the supersonic coupe is being given a new lease of life.

All new wacky, weird, but also cute and decent to drive mostly Brit built coupe/SUV that successfully competes against MINIs, MX-5s, Abarth 500s, Citroen DS3s, Renault Winds, Peugeot 207CCs and everything else in the £12,500 - £20,000 'style' sector.

The revised Juke may look the same, but there's an impressive new 1.2-litre petrol engine plus more customisation options.
Fri, 30 May 2014
Nissan's 'niche' model Juke has sold 330,000 in 18 months; 29,000 in the last year in the UK alone, beating all competitors. So now Nissan is creating a niche within the niche. But does it work?
Mon, 21 Jan 2013
The Juke Nismo RS is powered by a 1.6-litre turbo petrol with 218PS. It also gets a new front limited-slip differential, bigger brakes and a new suspension arrangement.

The revised Nissan Leaf won’t suit everyone, but if you’ve considered one already then these changes might well help you make up your mind.
Tue, 16 Apr 2013
The new Leaf remains expensive to buy when compared to its petrol and diesel rivals, but it is miles ahead of its electric competition.
Sat, 20 Jan 2018
Nissan gives the all-electric Leaf a better battery for an even bigger range - but is it enough to diminish range anxiety?

It's all change for the latest generation Nissan Micra with a striking design and a big improvement in quality.
Wed, 11 Jan 2017
The 2019 Nissan Micra has just been refreshed with two new 1.0 litre engines and the option of an automatic transmission. Both 999c chain cam 3-cylinder turbos with an integrated exhaust manifold ‘delta’ head, the more powerful 117PS has direct injection whereas the 100PS uses multipoint injection to squirt the fuel/air mixture into the combustion chambers via the inlet valves.

This job is full of surprises. At the same time on the same morning as one chap handed me the keys to a wow-factor, fully loaded forty grand Mercedes 280SLK, another pair of drivers rather sheepishly delivered a plain metallic grey Nissan Micra C+C 1.4 Urbis.
Sun, 04 Jun 2006
This started off as a test of Nissan's bargain priced MINI-rivalling K12 Micra 160SR, but got side-tracked by a very pretty little Sport + diesel.
Wed, 20 Jul 2005
“Ahhh....cute. It’s like a baby.” Those were my wife’s words when she first caught sight of the frogeyed new Nissan Micra K12.
Tue, 31 Dec 2002
The new Nissan Micra K13 arriving in the UK in November 2010 is the first of the next generation of small yet spacious, low emission high economy petrol engined cars.

New supercharged Micra uses blower for efficiency rather than speed, pays no VED and creeps into London Congestion Charge free.

The new 174PS Nissan Navara is currently king of the pick-ups. Not only will it carry more than a ton, it will also cruise at more than a ton and for that it deserves the Respect shown in its TV commercials.
Sat, 08 Oct 2005
Nissan's supercharged, three-cylinder 1.2 DIG-S engine is now available in the Note. The question is, does it turn the car into a petrol powered economy champion?
Mon, 23 Jun 2014
Someone had to come up with a reasonable rival to the Honda Jazz. And while the Nissan Note doesn’t break new ground like the Jazz did (and still does), it has enough to commend it to win friends and influence poeple.
Thu, 01 Jun 2006
Nissan is aiming high with the new Note as it looks to rival the likes of the Ford Fiesta and Volkswagen Polo in the hatchback market.
Tue, 09 Jul 2013
I last tested a British built Nissan Note almost three years ago and reckoned then that it was a reasonable rival to the Honda Jazz.
Sun, 22 Mar 2009
The very existence of the new Nissan Pathfinder tells us something significant. Nissan is getting out of volume and into niches.
Thu, 14 Apr 2005
I first clapped eyes on the Nissan Primera P12 at the 2001 Barcelona Motor Show. Wow, that's different, I thought. It simply didn't need the gorgeous girl standing next to it in a dress split from her ankle to her waist.
Wed, 07 May 2003
Two years ago Nissan expected to sell 18,000 Primera P12s a year and 4,000 X-Trails. Now it’s selling 10,000 Primeras a year and 10,000 X-Trails.

We put the petrol-powered Pulsar through its paces on UK roads.
Mon, 03 Nov 2014
We find out if the most powerful version of the Nissan Pulsar provides real entertainment.

Can a 1.2 litre engine actually haul a vehicle as big as the second generation Qashqai or is your only sensible option the 1.6dCI diesel?
Sat, 28 Jun 2014
The Nissan Qashqai has been given the 1.3-litre petrol engine from the Mercedes-Benz A-Class in place of the old 1.2 and 1.6-litre units. Is it enough to take on the Kia Sportage?
Wed, 17 Oct 2018
New Renault 1.6 dCi 130 engine brings new technology and much-improved emissions to the Nissan Qashqai range.
Fri, 04 Nov 2011
You may not be able to pronounce it, but Nissan Qashqai has been a not entirely astonishing success. It has already sold exactly twice the anticipated number. No less than 5,000 are now on UK roads.
Fri, 23 Mar 2007
The second generation Qashqai shows big improvements in quality and refinement yet it's still practical and family-friendly.
Mon, 13 Jan 2014
Nissan Qashqai gets mid-life update for 2017. Will it be enough to keep it ahead of the crossover pack?
Fri, 23 Jun 2017
With many buyers now thinking twice about a big diesel SUV, Nissan has added its 163PS 1.6DIG-T petrol engine to the 7-seater X-Trail line-up.
Thu, 01 Oct 2015
The Nissan X-Trail 2.2 diesel has had a bit of a power hike. Only a bit, from 115PS to 138PS, but it makes a difference.
Fri, 30 Jan 2004
Now and again a car surprises me. I should have had an inkling from the delivery driver who said he’d really enjoyed his job that morning. All I’d been anticipating up until then was that the Nissan X-Trail would be a biggish mid-size SUV with a smallish 2.2-litre diesel engine.
Tue, 02 Apr 2002
I can’t tell you how reliable the new X-Trail is going to be. We won’t know about that for a year or two.
