Fiat Road Tests

Honest John's experiences of his FIAT 500 1.2 Lounge over 34 months and 12,000 miles.
Mon, 24 Jan 2011
This is a bit different from a normal road test. For a start, it’s a very important car: ‘European Car of the Year’ 2008. And I’m thinking of buying one.
Wed, 23 Jan 2008
After 8 years in production the FIAT 500 has had its first major revamp, and happily FIAT applied it with kid gloves.
Tue, 14 Jul 2015
Capitalising on the 500 name, FIAT has introduced a Trekking version of the 500L with a trick diff and M&S tyre, and an extra long MPW with 5 or 7 seats.
Wed, 10 Jul 2013
Offering 85PS, yet just 95g/km CO2, FIAT's 500 TwinAir is the first of a new generation of cars that proves eco consciousness can be combined with fun.
Tue, 26 Oct 2010
Last January, as 360,000 people have done since, I liked the FIAT 500 so much I bought one. And my little car has been a stylish standby.

The Fiat 500L may look like the city car which gives it its name, but does it also share its charm?
Wed, 27 Mar 2013
After 5 years and 420,000 sales FIAT has refreshed its family friendly 500L. HJ takes the all-weather equipped Cross Multijet for a run in the Northern Italian countryside.

Based on the new Jeep Renegade, the 500X is Fiat's entry in the small crossover market.
Wed, 19 Nov 2014
More than just a cash in the success of its stylish hatchback relation, the 500X is the most well-rounded Fiat launched in many years.
Fri, 24 Apr 2015
Arguably the most desirable Fiat on the market, the 500X has little in common with the 500 city car with which it shares a name. And now it's been facelifted for 2018.

The FIAT Bravo has the kind of stunning styling that Italians somehow seen to do almost effortlessly. In the right colour it’s probably the best looking mid-size hatchback you can buy.
Tue, 25 Mar 2008
To begin his presentation, FIAT boss Luca de Meo explained that according to his research the main customer expectation from FIAT is style, at 37%. Quality came in at 16%. That’s lucky, then.

Tax, the price of oil and particularly the UK price of diesel mean that ECO is becoming increasingly important. Every manufacturer now has an mid size ECO diesel.
Sat, 07 Jun 2008
The FIAT Croma is back. And, knowing full well there was no way it could sell an ordinary car in a market stuffed to the gills with Mondeos, Vectras, Mazda 6s, Lagunas and Avenses, to name but a few, FIAT has come up with something different.
Tue, 02 Aug 2005
Peculiar looking contraption, the Doblo. Deliberately styled to look utilitarian, almost like a pastiche of a 1930’s hotel bus. The kind of car you could bump in a carpark with an even chance of it ending up looking better.
Tue, 07 Dec 2004
Back in the 1970s, FIAT’s advertising strategy was summed up in one word: “brio”. Every advertisment, every poster and every commercial told you the cars were as fun-loving as the Italians. FIAT had 6% of the UK market.

FIAT’s Idea is a very interesting little car. It’s cutely good looking. It isn’t gimmicky. It’s all about packing as much versatility as possible onto the same size footprint as the Punto.
Mon, 11 Oct 2004
Even Fiat make no bones about it with a sign on the back window that reads, "Wait until you see the front". The Fiat Multipla is the weirdest looking new car on the road today.
Tue, 17 Oct 2000
The new FIAT Panda is cheap. It’s cheerful. And it’s European Car of the Year 2004. The first thing that strikes you is its cuteness. It’s smaller and sweeter than it looks in pictures.
Sat, 06 Mar 2004
I’m a Panda fan. I like the Panda 1.1 Active. I like the Panda diesel. I like the Panda 4x4. So why did the indisputably cute Panda 100HP not quite push all my buttons?
Thu, 08 Feb 2007
It may not look radically different from the previous model, but the new Panda is bigger and better than before.
Mon, 27 Feb 2012
It’s hard not to love the FIAT Panda. Chic, cheerful, small and cute. European Car of the Year 2004, it’s comfortable, fun to drive, has the best-designed control panel of any car anywhere.
Sat, 12 Feb 2005
At £16,000 the FIAT Panda Cross does everything a bigger 4x4 can do and impresses with its solid build, character and charm.
Sat, 19 Jul 2014
FIAT has relaunched its Grande Punto supermini as the Grande Punto Evo. Martin Gurdon tells us what it's like.
Sat, 23 Jan 2010
A lot of journalistic flak has been flung at the latest incarnation of the FIAT Punto. Accusations that FIAT has robbed it of its character, ruined its looks, messed up its handling and destroyed its appeal have all been made with varying degrees of vehemence.
Sun, 21 Mar 2004
FIAT drops 'Grande' and 'Evo' from the Punto name, and drops a 98g/km TwinAir engine under the bonnet.
Mon, 25 Jun 2012
Happily, FIAT has now decided to stick with what it’s good at: small cars. And the decision could not have come at a better time. So as well as Pandas, 500s, Grande Puntos and the forthcoming Topolino, the company is now offering us a cheerful little MPV along the lines of a smaller Berlingo

For the 2016 Tipo FIAT has gone back to basics, so you only pay for what you want, and don't pay for what you don't want.
