Smooth, reliable and economical....family car since Feb 2019....

Being stingy when buying a car I opted for the Skoda Octavia estate (this is my favourite its the one before the front had loads of lights making it look like a spider lol) which I had sourced from a family friends small car dealership. In Newcastle and the north east in general there are loads of these as taxis (maybe they cant afford the Toyota Prius like London cabbies! lol) its the obvious choice for the very reason they are solid and economical and good for the money. A chat with a taxi driver in 2018 whilst being a passenger with them was my final decision to buy a used one our ancient golf just doesn't have the space. I could waste my money on Audi, (my middle name is scrooge) when in reality its the same stuff without the over price on parts. Like my wife I aim to keep this car with the family forever if possible (lol) The boot is massive, especially with the folding hidden boot floor, and still manages to keep a full sized spare tyre! I love all the little extras you get, this model is the one below VRS and has everything other than the power....we don't get the spare umbrella though! My only regret is I should have gone for the 2.0 TDI....I drive obsessively smoothly and get 60mpg with me only driving with me and my 2.4 family setup im getting 58mpg average, I have posted this on here with 58mpg as honest me figures...and that's me not flooring the car not that you can - There are driving mode buttons (minus the vrs mode obviously) for economy, normal and sport (this is gimmicky really) just make the gearbox change at higher lower rpm dependent on choice....this car will easily get to around 70-75mph on motorway overtaking traffic with ease*

GOOD: LOADS OF SPACE, GREAT ECONOMY (until I get an electric car!), easy to fit bike carriers - has roof bars as standard. It does have start stop engine which you can turn off where the mode selector is. I love it has a normal hand brake, not a button keyless start engine. I can easily get almost 600miles on a 50litre tank for long journeys on motorways. As of May 22 its nearly £2 a litre but I wont moan fossil fuels have ruined our climate enough already! Cruise control is great for long journeys, and the auto brake feature sensors help fortunately haven't had to use these yet and hopefully never. I also love the 10spoke alloys you get on the elegance model....though elegance isn't the word I would have chose for this model....Octavia+ maybe....

NOT SO GOOD: "ERROR WORKSHOP" warning comes on display console every quarterly of year (started doing it late 2020) of using the car its something to do with the DSG gearbox software this is annoying more than anything - its apparently a £600 fix! again this very random and nothing I am worried about as I have read around the subject. Lastly no front passenger vanity light on overhanging visor mirror eh?! ....that must be the only reason the Skoda is cheaper than the Audi equivalent lol

FUNNIES: Are the VW group taking the Michael's here? sometimes when I put the Sat NAV on it says you are driving outside Wolfsburg car plant in Germany! I do like our family car regardless :)

*As said, 1.6tdi is fine, but if I put 3bikes on roof fully filled boot and 4 humans in the car weighing a total of 200kg (not including the weight of the rack and luggage either) you really need to be patient when on long haul journeys....maybe stick around 60-65mph! oh you might be lucky to get around 50-52mpg!

Since 2019, its passed every MOT and added 40,000miles and 2 new 17" Michelin tyres to the clock most journeys have been more than a trip to the shop...2023 will be a new cambelt.....and in 2030....I will be driving a tesla model00 estate with a range of 1000miles on a 1hour charge.....pigs can fly.
