A gamble that may pay off but don't buy one if you can't afford a new engine!

Probably the riskiest Porsche 911 purchase other than a 964.
Great handling but feels very much like a modern car not the air-cooled Porsche experience more of a modern car.
Why the risky gamble well the 3.4 and to a lesser degree the 3.6 engines are prone to all sorts of problems besides the usual RMS oil leaks engines often go bang with out warning and the cost of a fix is often a new engine at £8000 or a rebuild at £5000 so be warned don't buy one unless you can afford the cost of a replacement engine as the older these 996's get the more likely they will need rebuild or replacement engines due to the design of the cylinder linings.
For further information look at hartech Porsche who have all the info for possible problems.
I may have been unlucky but had I know the risks Id never have bough a 996.
Buy a cheap one and if it does go bang just scrap it IMHO.
They are getting cheaper all the time, no wonder!
