Versatile & good value

Bought used at 152k miles, now on 181k. Big roomy car that has carried 7 only a few times, but more comfy with 6. Some suspension parts needed but fair wear & tear, parts are cheaper if you buy the equivalent Ford c-max /volvo v50 items as they all share this suspension platform.
Engine burns about 0.5l oil per 1000 miles, so top ups are needed between services. Use cheap oil not a problem. Eats the miles in comfort & is quite sporty to drive.
Ours has never exhibited the rear tyre wear problems & all 4 corners are wearing evenly. The 2.0 LFF7 Engine, with its timing chain, feels like it'll run forever with regular 10k oil changes. Running winter tyres all year, here in scotland, has improved the grip immensely. Drivers lower seat bolster foam has collapsed, but they all seem to do this. Air con is excellent, although ours needed a new compressor a while back, the pumps electric clutch had failed. If you're handy with the spanners, this car will cost you pennies to maintain, all consumables are cheap & home servicing is very easy to do. These cars do rust quite quickly underneath & you need to clear out caked mud under the wheel arch lips and the sills can rot out if you don't give some attention to cleaning off & repainting the underseal along the sill seams every few years. Trim is Hardy, switches are all good & nothing has broken or fallen off in 3 yrs. I reckon we spend about £250 per year on parts to keep it maintained. The only downside is it's petrol-thirst with average 34mpg, but rises to 39 with a light foot at 65-70 motorway driving. Not too bad for a big car & 2.0 petrol engine.
