A great budget car if you dont have a lot to spend

We have had an Elantra CRTD CDX since purchasing it new in April 2004, it is my wifes car, she loves it. The good points, It has covered just short of 100k miles, it has been very reliable, very little has gone wrong with it (touch wood) still on its original battery and exhaust system. Lots of features as standard, CD, Climate, Leather, alloys etc, large boot, enough space for the average family. Fuel consumtion keep it around the legal limit and you should get 45 mpg on a decent run, its quite poor on the urban cycle, the trip computer is in US gallons so ignore it. The bad points, handling and steering are only average and it is heavy on front tyres add an extra 3psi it helps tyre wear and steering feel, the brakes are powerful but not very progressive, performance is good if a little noisy under acceleration, there is rough spot around 1900 rpm. I dont know if the outer panels are made of thin steel but they dent very easily, ours is covered in car park dents. Dealer servicing and genuine parts can be expensive, sadly these days some Hyundai dealers think they are in the prestige car class. Headlamp bulbs do not last very long, use good quality bulbs as they appear to last longer, I think the vibration of the diesel engine affects them, but they are easy to change. If you want a budget family car and do not care about the badge you could do a lot worse than buying one of these £1200 should get you a decent example, a lot of older people bought these so there are a number of low mileage well cared for examples out there.
