Fiat 'still a green choice'

Tue, 03 Mar 2009
Fiat has come top of a green league table for the second consecutive year.

Statistics from Jato - a motoring research group - revealed of all the cars sold in 2008, those made by the Italian manufacturer boasted the lowest average carbon dioxide emissions - with a typical figure of 133.7 g/km.

Lorenzo Sistino, managing director at Fiat, said he was delighted by the company's achievement and added the firm was determined to improve its green credentials even further.

He stated: "Our aim is to reinforce our European record in emissions reduction by introducing new engines, new technologies and new applications."

Mr Sistino explained innovations like eco:Drive would help the manufacturer achieve its environmental goals.

This software analyses a motorist's vehicle handling and advises them on how to reduce their fuel consumption and emissions.

In related motoring news, Fiat recently announced it had fitted its 500 model with Start&Stop technology, which automatically stops and restarts an engine at the appropriate times in heavy traffic.
