Electric fast car on the cards

Fri, 23 Jan 2009
People who find buying a car difficult because they want something powerful and environmentally-friendly may be impressed by the vehicle being designed by former McLaren creative Jim Dowle.

The P1-E was first brought to the attention of the public in February last year and, according to the man behind the model, there has been rapid progress since then.

Mr Dowle explained he decided to power the machine with electricity, making the vehicle one of the first such sports cars.

He pointed out the model has a range of about 230 miles and can go from standing to 60 mph in 2.9 mph.

When the vehicle becomes available to buy, it is expected it will cost in the region of £55,000.

Commenting on model, Mr Dowd stated: "We decided it was time to create an affordable electric sports car that combined the advantages of conventionally-engined machines with those of electric ones."

In other fast car motoring news, Jaguar recently announced an XFR prototype had achieved 225.675 mph - making it the manufacturer's fastest-ever model.
