Corsa supermini 'lead Vauxhall 2009 success'

Mon, 18 Jan 2010
Those thinking of buying a new car may be interested in the revelation that it was the Corsa supermini that lead Vauxhall's 2009 success in Scotland.

As the best-selling auto manufacturer north of the border for the consecutive year with 15.7 per cent of sales, Vauxhall reported the Corsa supermini sold some 2,000 units more than its nearest rival.

Sales director Rory Harvey said: "We are delighted to be Scotland's biggest selling car manufacturer and also buoyed by the Corsa's dominance in what is a highly important market for us."

The automaker went on to predict the June launch of the new Meriva compact MPV would make a splash with its rear-hinged back doors and "unique cabin features".

It said the vehicle would "turn the conventional concept of family car usability on its head".

Vauxhall also reported UK market share growth of 128 per cent and 54 per cent in November and December, respectively.

Mr Harvey revealed that across Britain, the new Astra also had a hand in boosting sales.
