‘Blower’ Bentley sells for £4.5 million

A legendary Bentley once raced by Sir Henry ‘Tim’ Birkin at the Brooklands circuit has sold for £4.5 million at the Bonhams Goodwood auction, breaking the record for the highest sale price for a Bentley. In its heyday the car would have raced around the hair-raising Outer Circuit at Brooklands

The 4 ½ litre single-seater set a record of 137.96mph at the circuit in 1932, on a bumpy, tricky surface, whick Birkin described as having “...bumps which jolt the driver up and down in his seat and make the car leave the road and travel through the air.”

Now the car is back in record books – its £4.5 million sale at the Goodwood Festival of Speed beats the previous record sale price for a Bentley set in 2004 for a Speed Six, which went for £2.8 million.
