From 2CV to Phantom 1 in Classic Auction

Sun, 25 Jan 2009
Barons February 10th sale at Sandown Park, Esher, Surrey is headlined by a rare, 1926 Rolls-Royce Phantom One, originally owned by Mrs. Josephine L. Butler of Carswell Manor, Farringdon, Berkshire. The motor car currently has a lwb, dual cowl, phaeton body with additional, occasional seats in the passenger
compartment, and a demountable auster screen. When supplied new, it came with a mascot supplied by the client but is now fitted with a genuine, Rolls-Royce, Spirit of Ecstasy, dated 1911, a rare item in itself. Estimate: £35,000-£45,000.

Another charming entry is the 1928 Pontiac Six Doctor's Coupe, believed to be the only surviving example in the world. Discovered in Arkansas in the early nineties, it was subjected to a nut and bolt restoration by Charles Mc Garrah, using all original, factory supplied parts, to maintain complete originality. It is offered complete with a new 6V battery and an original Poster Advert from The Saturday Evening Post of September 1st 1928, which shows this model, in the exact same livery. Estimate: £12,000-£15,000.

Other notable lots include a 1965 Jaguar E-Type S1 4.2 roadster with original factory hardtop (estimate £30,000-£40,000), a very striking 1959 Ford Skyliner Retractable (£15,000-£17,000), and a magnificent 1997 Bentley Turbo RL (estimate £14,500-£16,000).

And those looking for a starter classic or a future classic with real character have three to choose from - a lovely little 1973 Volkswagen Beetle 1302S LHD, which has covered just 21,000 miles from new (estimate £4,000-£5,000), an immaculate 1984 Citroen 2CV6 Dolly Special (£3,000-£4,000) and a 1996 Rover Mini Sprite (£2,500-£3,500).

Barons is offering excellent rates for vendors looking to enter multiple vehicles in the sale. Vendors can enter three cars and pay costs on just two, or enter five cars on a no-sale, no-fee basis (subject to terms and conditions.)
