Classics Still Selling

Thu, 05 Jun 2008
The sun shone on BCA-Classics sale at the Brooklands Museum today, in more ways than one.

168 lots of automobilia were knocked down in the first two hours, then 46 cars from spanning 86 years.

The extraordinary 1914 James/Wall quadricycle, basically a pedal tricycle propelled by a fourth wheel with a motor attached, made £2,200. At the other extreme a year 2000 Plymouth Prowler with just 4,400 miles bid to £23,500 provisional.

In between, the interesting selection included a fine 3.6 litre Austin 20HP, sold for £20,000; a delightful recreated 1924 Austin 7 Sports, sold for £10,000, a spectacular 1957 De-Soto Firedome that didn’t sell at £12,000 (though could make $50,000 sent back home); a perfect RHD 1959 Porsche 356B cabrio, sold for £37,000; and a 1993 Mercedes 500 SL sold in aid of Cancer Research for £14,200s.

Here are the results, as known at 17.00 on the day. As usual, ‘s’ means sold. ‘p’ means top provisional bid, ‘n/s’ means not sold. ‘n/w’ means miles not warranted. ‘MNW’ means unknown mileage. ‘dmg’ means damaged. ‘fl’ means facelift. ‘s/r’ means sunroof.

Please add 11.75% commission and VAT on commission to hammer prices.
