MG S6 EV Review 2025
MG S6 EV At A Glance
The MG S6 EV is a forthcoming mid-size, five-seat electric SUV due to arrive in the UK in 2026.
Sitting above the MG S5 EV and below the new IM6 in the MG line-up, it was first revealed, unusually, by safety organisation Euro NCAP when it aceived a maximum five-star score in its pre-release tests. As such, official details are scant so far.
We suspect it'll go on sale in the UK in early 2026 as a more spacious and upmarket alternative to the S5 EV. Prices will likely fall between that smaller car and the IM6, which would suggest somewhere in the low-to-mid £30k territory through to the low-£40ks. This would, depending on spec, place the S6 EV as a rival to a range of fellow electric mid-size SUVs – think Tesla Model Y, the Hyundai Ioniq 5, the Kia EV6, the Renault Scenic E-Tech, and the Nissan Ariya, as well as emerging Chinese rivals like the BYD Atto 3 and Seal U and the Leapmotor C10. And more.
Who's it for? Predominantly those after a family EV who've maybe considered one of the cars mentioned above but are after prioritising interior space and rather aggressive pricing rather than a premium option.
What we know so far is that there will be single and dual-motor versions, both of which we assume will come to the UK as they have done in Australia. There will be two batteries – one 62.2kWh and one 77kWh, which should give a range of up to around 370 miles or so, depending on the final tuning.
The testing images and commentary suggest an interior with a large infotainment screen, digital instrumant cluster and a head-up display, but we've yet to see it.

MG S6 EV handling and engines
MG S6 EV 2025: Handling and ride quality
The S5's handling and ride quality were a big improvement on earlier MG cars, so we're hopeful that the S6 will be even better, although with perhaps slightly less agility due to its size. A car like this needs to be comfortable at all times and quiet even at motorway speeds.
MG S6 EV 2025: Engines
Those Australian filings list the two-wheel-drive S6 EV at 1908kg, and give two power outoputs for the 77kWh versions – 205PS and 362PS, which should give it reasonable poke. A 0-62mph of around seven to eight seconds would seem likely for the lower-powered version and the more powerful model could dip into the mid-fives.
MG S6 EV 2025: Safety
We already know that the S6 EV will be very safe thanks to its maximum five-star score from independent safety organisation Euro NCAP, with particularly high scores for adult and child occupant protection.
Standard features confirmed in the test include front, side-head and side-chest airbags, a driver-knee airbag, strong side-pole protection, good whiplash performance, driver-monitoring, lane-keeping assistance, emergency lane keeping, speed-limit recognition with intelligent speed assist, and an integrated eCall and multi-collision brake system.

MG S6 EV 2025: Practicality
The S6 is larger than the S5 EV, so the interior space should be roomier than the already decent smaller car thanks to its longer body and wheelbase. Adults should have plenty of head space and rear legroom, and a flat floor should give decent middle-seat comfort, too. Expect a boot size between 500 and 600 litres in capacity, based on those of rivals and the general packaging of the S5 EV as a practical family car.
MG S6 EV 2025: Quality and finish
The S6 EV is being touted as a step up in quality compared to the old ZS EV, so expect more soft-touch materials and a more luxurious, premium vibe. Synthetic leather on higher trims seems likely, as does backlit trim elements and ambient lighting.
MG S6 EV 2025: Infotainment
Based on the tech found in other MG models, we'd expect to see a large touhcscreen running MG's latest infotainment operating system with wireless p and Android Auto across the range. Navigation and EV route planning are included in other models, so it should be here too. The head-up display is clearly visible in Euro NCAP's images, although that could be a feature reserved for higher trim levels.
MG S6 EV value for money
MG S6 EV 2025: Prices
We'd expect the S6 EV to be priced between the S5 EV (from £28,745) and the IM6, which starts at £47,995, which points towards a starting price of between £33,000 and £35,000. Top trims and long-range models are likely to nudge towards £42,000, but that still undercuts equivalent models of the Kia EV6 or Tesla Model Y.
MG S6 EV 2025: Running Costs
No technical specifications have been officially revealed for the MG S6 EV, but there are a few educated guesses that can give us a good idea of its running costs.
Charging costs will vary depending on whether you use public chargers or top up the battery at home; the former will be pricey, the latter much less so, especially if you have a dedicated EV tariff from your supplier. If we assume that the predicted battery sizes on the S6 EV – 62kWh and 77kWh – are correct, that would mean a full recharge of around 70kWh would cost around £17.50 at 25p per kW. A full charge is likely to deliver around 300 miles of driving.
Some EV tariffs let you charge at home for as little as 7p per kW, but public fast charging can cost north of 80p per kW.
When it comes to maintenance, EV servicing tends to cost less than petrol or diesel cars because there are fewer moving parts. MG offers a seven-year warranty on its other models, so it's highly likely that the S6 EV will have the same length of factory cover from new. MG labour costs are very competitive.
First-year Vehicle Excise Duty (VED) will be included in the cost of the car, but after that you'll pay the standard rate of £195 a year. A few models may cost more than £40,000 when new, in which case you'll need to pay the luxury car supplement of £425 between years two and six of registration, on top of the flat rate.
