Astra Sports Hatch launched

Very sharp and sporty looking hatchback also available with dramatic Panorama windscreen (3rd photo) that extends seamlessly into the roof. Has special sunlight filtering, heat absorbing glass and a shading system with fold out sunblinds. Full range of new Astra drivetrains with diesel and petrol engines from 90PS to 170PS and IDS (Interactive Driving Chassis). 240bhp 152mph VXR from September 2005 at £18,995. Looks more like a chopped top motor show concept car than a family 3-door hatchback.

December 2007

Super fast Nurburgring edition launched

Astra VXR Nürburgring Edition, from December 2007. Has exclusive white paint, embossed seats and graphics. Priced at £20,995 on-the-road. White 18-inch alloy wheels, equipped with bespoke Dunlop tyres, dark tinted windows, carbon fibre effect mirrors and B-pillars and chequered flag body graphics.

0-60mph in 6.2, top speed of 155mph, Remus Sports Exhaust, developed with Vauxhall’s BTCC race team, Triple-Eight Race Engineering. Six-speed manual gearbox and lowered, uprated VXR suspension with ESP as standard. Ventilated 321mm diameter disc brakes at the front and 278mm diameter discs at the back, blue-painted callipers
Recaro seats.

Ecoflex range extended

All 2009MY Astra Estate, Sports Hatch and 5-door models join popular ecoFLEX range priced from £16,340OTR. With CO2 emissions of only 119g/km, these ecoFLEX models fall within the lowest, 13%, diesel band for Benefit-in-Kind (BiK) tax – and with an estimated combined fuel consumption of 62.8mpg. All feature a 1.7 litre, 110PS common rail turbo diesel engine with 6 speed transmission, diesel particulate filter and lowered chassis, with the Life (air conditioned) ecoFLEX model featuring Low rolling resistance tyres on existing 15 inch wheels.
