Piaggio MP3 500 Sport (2014–)

Last updated 26 March 2015

Model History

October 2014

Announcement of Piaggio MP3 Sport 500, the most powerful 3-wheeler scooter so far from Piaggio that can be ridden on a car driver's licence.

This brings the advantage of a motorcycle in traffic to car drivers who have not passed their bike tests.

The MP3 Sport 500 is 2,205mm long with a wheelbase of 1,550mm and is 775mm wide

Engine is a wet sump, liquid cooled 493cc single cylinder SOHC delivering 40PS at 7,250rpm and 45.5Nm torque at 5,250rpm.

Transmission is a CVT.

The front wheels are 13" and the single rear is 14". Disc brakes front and rear.

Piaggio says, "the MP3 Sport 500's unparalleled stability allows the rider to safely manoeuvre through traffic with confidence, for a more enjoyable riding experience."

Characterised by its quirky design aesthetics, the new MP3 model's sporty personality is defined by the dynamic design of the scooter and slim-line pointed tail end. The scooter provides exceptional durability as the only 'three wheeler' in the world to boast an anti-lock braking system (ABS) integrated by ASR traction control. A technological first in the category, the MP3 Sport's acute sensors intervene when excessive rear wheel speed is detected, preventing wheel spin. This is particularly advantageous when leaning into a corner or riding on slippery road surfaces, making the MP3 Sport 500 a superlative vehicle for handling in all weather conditions.

The Piaggio MP3 Sport has many advanced features including the new Piaggio Multimedia Platform (PMP), only available as an accessory, that allows riders to connect their smartphone to the scooter's sophisticated on-board electronics. The virtual dashboard includes a navigation system which helps riders locate their parked scooter or suggests a route to the nearest fuel station, fuel consumption tracking and an exclusive new grip-warning function.

The Piaggio MP3 500 Sport ABS-ASR retails at £7,632 and is available from November 2014 in three colours: Nero Opaco Carbonio (black), Argento Cometa Opaco (silver matt) and Blu Laguna (blue metallic).

The MP3 range also includes MP3 Yourban LT 300 (from £6,034) and MP3 Yourban LT Sport 300 (from £6,134).
