Peugeot 308 SW (2008 – 2013) Review

Peugeot 308 SW (2008 – 2013) At A Glance

4/5

+Versatile update of 307SW on 308 floorpan. 3 x Isofix sliding, folding centre rear seats. Excellent handling. THP 150 6-speed best.

-Centre seats have to be slid back before then can be tipped for people to get out of the back.

Insurance Groups are between 10–20
On average it achieves 92% of the official MPG figure

This car is unique.

It's the only station wagon available in the UK with the option of seven seats. And they are all forward facing.

The outgoing 307 SW wasn't bad, combining a great chassis with 7-seater capability. But the Peugeot designers in Paris have looked at every way they could improve it. And I'm pleased to say they have, not least in offering it with a sweet, flexible 150PS turbo petrol engine and all-new 6-speed box that gives it the capability of around 38 mpg. Who needs a ‘depollution system faulty' diesel? Especially at 125p a litre.

Car stopped while driving and struggling to turn its engine - is it seized?

"My car suddenly stopped (seemed like it stalled) with no warning lights or noises. The AA suggest seized engine as can't jump start and the starter won't manually move. Any ideas if it could be anything less complex than a seized engine?"
Does read as if it has seized. If three of you can't push it while it's in 2nd gear then it is seized.

Peugeot 308 SW fault code - *Engine fault risk of filter clogging*

"My Peugeot 308 SW (2012 model) has a problem. When I start up it flashes as *Engine fault risk of filter clogging*. I've had the car serviced and a fault code - P1435 multiplexed additive pump fault - showed up. My mechanic recommended seeing how it goes for the next few weeks and if it's still there he can fit a new pump but says that may not get rid of it. The car is driving perfectly well, I have covered approx 2000 miles since the problem first started. Any ideas? "
You don't say how far you're driving the car. I've had 'depollution' warning come up after three short runs from cold starts with these cars. The answer was to take it for a 50 mile motorway run. I think your mechanic is on the right track. The Eolys additive pumps can fail. The DPFs can also fill up with ash and need cleaning out by the Ceramex process.

Insurance value of written off car is too low - what can I do?

"I bought a Peugeot 308 SW in March for £16,700. The car was discounted as it was old stock prior to a change of design. As you might expect, I took out fully comprehensive insurance and the cover included new for old replacement. In July the car was written off in an accident in which the other driver and their insurer accepted liability. At that time the car had clocked up around 3500 miles. However, now my insurer is saying they will only give me £13,000 and not a new replacement, as the model has changed. I can't even get a used version of the car for the settlement figure. What can I do? "
Read your policy very carefully because they will probably have covered themselves against this. If not, take the matter to the Insurance Ombudsman.

Should I put oil into my car or wait until the service?

"I bought a used Peugeot 308 SW diesel almost 12 months ago. For the first time today I've had the "Check Oil" indicator appear on the display. Should I put in oil myself or wait until the (free) service at the end of the month? "
It's not unusual for an engine to use some oil in a year. But the oil light probably signifies a lack of oil pressure because there is not enough oil in the engine. So read the driver's manual. Find out what grade of oil it needs. Then put some in. It will probably need a least a litre. This is urgent or the engine might seize.
