The Peugeot 3008 is practical, good to drive, comfortable and packed with high-tech equipment. It's also one of the best crossovers on sale, which is saying something given the strength of the competition.

The interior is stylish and modern with neat details, plus it uses high quality materials, giving it an upmarket feel. It's a huge improvement on the previous 3008. There is enough room in the back row for adults to sit in comfort and the boot is generous at 520 litres, slightly more than alternatives like the SEAT Ateca. 

The 1.2 Puretech petrol engine is very impressive and ideal if you're not going to be doing big miles. However, our pick of the original range was the 1.6-litre BlueHDi 120PS with official economy of 70.6mpg. It’s smooth, quiet and powerful enough for all kinds of driving, plus it is available with either a six-speed manual or six-speed EAT6 auto.

Plug-in petrol hybrid models with two-wheel or four-wheel drive was added to the range in early-2020, giving the 3008 an advertised 217mpg and a pure-electric range of 36 miles.  

On the road the 3008 impresses with its quiet cabin, neat handling and good ride quality. There’s plenty of traction despite the lack of an all-wheel drive version and body roll is well-controlled through corners. It’s also available with useful convenience features like adaptive cruise control that stops and starts in traffic jams.

Peugeot has foregone the basic Access specification for the 3008, instead offering all cars with a generous level of standard equipment including a fully-digital instrument binnacle, like the Audi Virtual Cockpit, plus a touchscreen with Android/Apple smartphone mirroring. Autonomous emergency braking and lane departure warning are standard too.

Prices are slightly higher than its rivals, but the extra money buys some worthwhile gear – particularly the beautiful, clear digital instrument binnacle. The good level of equipment and stylish cabin make the 3008 stand out, plus driving dynamics and refinement are excellent.

Can you suggest a crossover to replace our hatchback?
"We are now on our sixth Volkswagen Golf. My wife is now struggling at times to get out of the passenger front seat. What car or SUV of a similar size to our Golf, and perhaps a little higher up, would you suggest for our next vehicle?"
Take a look at the Volkswagen T-Roc. It'll feel like a Golf, but with a higher seating position and easy access. If you're ready for a change, we'd recommend a Ford Puma or Peugeot 2008, or slightly bigger crossovers like the Peugeot 3008.

Need a replacement car and have two teenagers. What do you suggest?
"My daughters Vauxhall Meriva is coming to the end of its life and, as she's a single parent with two teenagers, I'm thinking about a replacement for her. I would be grateful for your advice and would like to go with something with a bit more quality. I like Toyota but there isn’t a like-for-like replacement. The car has done well but the engine is well worn and uses oil. The Meriva has now been replaced by the Crossland, which I don’t know much about but I would like to support her with something of better quality. Many thanks."
Take a look at the Skoda Kamiq. It's a very practical little crossover SUV (like the Vauxhall Crossland), that's well made and represents excellent value for money. It's very practical, too, with loads of space for two teenagers. You could also consider slightly bigger cars like the Skoda Karoq or Peugeot 3008.

I'm unsure whether to buy a petrol, diesel or hybrid car. What do you think?
"I live in France but, in normal times, return to the UK 4-5 times a year. I have been thinking of buying a Citroen C5 Aircross but I'm unsure whether to buy a petrol, diesel or hybrid car. Are there any other cars I should consider or any fully electric cars of a similar size? Thanks."
We rate the Citroen C5 Aircross highly – it's a very comfortable and practical choice that represents good value for money. If you cover a lot of motorway miles (driving between France and the UK, for example), a diesel makes a lot of sense. The plug-in hybrid model is quite expensive and only really makes sense for company car drivers or those covering a lot of short journeys. As an alternative, we'd recommend a Peugeot 3008 or Skoda Karoq.

Can I renew a lease at the end of the agreement, give it back or buy the car?
"We have a Hyundai Kona, which is shortly coming to the end of a three-year lease. It was brand new and top of the range when we got it and it's done less than 15,000 miles. We like the car, although at times we wish it was a bit bigger and higher off the ground. Should we try to renew the lease for one or two years, give the car back at the end of the three years or buy it and keep it until we trade it in for another car? Your thoughts would be appreciated. Alternatively, if we did give it back, what medium-sized and medium-priced SUV would you suggest? It would need to be relatively comfortable driving down our rough road. We also don't want a Skoda."
Usually, the leasing company would expect you to return the car at the end of the agreement – although some will offer the chance to extend it. They might be more willing to do this as you've not covered many miles. You won't be given the chance to buy it outright, unless it's a PCP finance agreement (rather than a lease). Consider a Citroen C5 Aircross as its replacement, or a Peugeot 3008.
