"For the past 40 years we have needed our cars to be suitable to carry elderly family members. We are now searching for a car that is fun to drive, preferably a convertible, but also need to install a child car seat. It would also be helpful if the car handled well in snow and icy conditions. We drive an average 15,000 miles pa and a budget of up to £35k. Can you help in our search for just such a car?"
BMW 3-Series coupe cabrio, Infiniti G37 coupe cabrio, Lexus IS250C, but you'll need a set of winter wheels and tyres for the snow.

"For past 12 years I have run BMW 325i convertibles and change every two years. I have noticed the cost to switch increasing every time I change. It was originally around £10k. Last time it crept up to £14k, and now I am being asked for £20k. This relates to a 50% fall in value over 2 years. We do like our open top motoring and would like to buy another one. However, before doing so, is there a convertible out there that retains its price better? I have a budget of £45k and do about 8k miles a year."
Sterling has dropped 30% against the Euro over the last couple of years and more than 40% against the Yen, which explains why UK car prices are rising. I'd take a very serious look at a Lexus IS250C. I rate it as the most refined convertible top down you can buy. Better than a Bentley. Also, if you're not too far from Reading, and want something faster, have a look at the Infiniti G37 Coupe Cabrio.

No fixed amount. Whatever you can negotiate. But a Lexus IS250C is that sort of money and you might prefer it as a car. See video demo at: www.honestjohn.co.uk/road_tests/index.htm?id=394 Also check out the Infiniti G37 Coupe Cabrio (if you live anywhere near Reading). Even if you don’t prefer the other cars to the BMW, you can use them as negotiating tools.
