Model History

March 2001

Elantra saloon and hatchback replaced Lantra model. Range starts with 1.6-litre engine with 106PS, which takes the car to 113mph. The 2.0 reaches 128mph and reaches 60mph in 9.1 seconds.

ABS, air conditioning, three three-point rear seatbelts and driver and passenger airbags are standard across the range, while the 2.0 litre CDX model has traction control, cruise control, climate control and leather seats. Prices start at £11,000 for the 1.6Si five-door, £12,199 for the 1.6Gsi four or five-door; 2.0CDX four or five-door £13,999.

February 2002

2.0-litre diesel added to the range with 111PS and 235Nm (173lb ft) torque at 2000rpm. Zero to 60mph takes 11.4 seconds, while top speed is 118mph. Combined consumption is 44.1mpg and CO2 emissions 169g/km. Standard features are driver, passenger and side airbags; ABS with EBD; air-conditioning; electric front windows and four speaker CD/radio. GSi versions also come with electric rear windows; keyless entry; six speaker CD/radio; electric tilt/slide sunroof and electric door mirrors.
