Bought a car for £1000 and the gearbox has died - what are my rights?

"I bought a a Fiat Stilo from a dealer about a month ago for a £1000. However, the gearbox has now packed up. Can you please tell me what my rights are ?"
You have some rights, but obviously these are diminished because the car is 12 years old and you paid less than 10% of its new price: http://www.honestjohn.co.uk/faq/consumer-rights/

Car failed after just one month and dealer won't repair - what are my options?

"I recently bought a used Fiat Stilo (2002) with a guaranteed mileage of 70,000. The car was sold with a three month warranty, but the dealer never gave me any paperwork to prove this. After just over a month of ownership the car’s clutch hydraulic system failed. The dealer refused to collect the car and I eventually managed to get it towed to him. He now says his mechanic has had a look at it, but it’s not his responsibility to fix or refund as it is just wear and tear! Is this a reasonable stance when I've only had the car 1 and a half months, only done 800 miles? "
The supplying dealer is completely wrong. Tell him you now want your money abck in full or will sure for it. Law here: http://www.honestjohn.co.uk/faq/consumer-rights/

Stilo diesel won't start?

"I have a Fiat Stilo 1.9 JTD that will start OK but will not rev up. I have changed the EGR valve and throttle pedal to no effect. Can anyone help me?"
Check the rubber intercooler hose from the turbo (outlet pipe) to see if it is split. Over and above that , or if it is okay, then you may be best to have a diagnostic check carried out in the first instance, rather than changing further items.(The fault could be quite a few things hence the diagnostic)

Driving with a worn DMF - what happens?

"I think I have the early signs of a worn DMF. What is the outcome (regarding damage or possible breakdown) of driving with a worn Dual Mass Flywheel?"
You might lose drive. You might mangle your starter motor. If the timing is taken from the flywheel the engine may simply stop running.
