What are your thoughts on the Perodua Myvi?

"I am thinking of changing my Toyota Avensis for a smaller car. I have looked at a Perodua Myvi which seems a value-for-money car. Have you any information on this or can you recommend a comparable alternative? "
Here: www.honestjohn.co.uk/carbycar/perodua/myvi-2006/ . It's a Daihatsu Sirion assembled in Malaysia using a Toyota Yaris engine and gearbox.

Daihatsu to stop selling cars - where do I stand?

"Daihatsu will stop selling cars in the UK next year. If I buy a new Sirion now will it be covered for the years after they stop selling in the UK and will the spares be available?"
It will have to be covered by the importer, IM, but spares availablility will be difficult and you might have to wait weeks for parts. Plus they could be expensive. Daithatsu officially ended imports at the start of 2011, but in reality they were unavailable for much of 2010.

Arise, Sir Ion

"Always with an eye for a bargain, I noticed a 2007, 56 reg Daihatsu Sirion 1.3SX with 18,000 miles on the clock, advertised for £4,295. Is this too good to be true? Are there any major potential problems to be wary of?"
Not bad. Fairly flimsy body, but excellent Yaris chain cam engine, slightly more powerful than in the Yaris, and solid 5-speed manual transmission. Secretly, a very good car. Tony Dron had one.
