I want a small campervan to travel in my retirement, which models do you recommend?

I'm considering buying a campervan to go travelling during my retirement. There is only me to consider, so a small van seems to be appropriate. The choice appears to be between a Volkswagen Caddy or a Citroen Berlingo. The former is considerably more expensive than the latter, but what are the pros and cons of each? I may wish to tow a small motorcycle trailer for certain journeys.

The Citroen Berlingo is a great and inexpensive van. Cheap to run and fix, the Citroen is hugely popular with builders; however, there are a few known faults. The fuse box is prone to water leaks and some high-mileage engines are known to go through quite a lot of oil. You can read our full review and used buying guide on the Citroen Berlingo here: vans.honestjohn.co.uk/van-reviews/citroen/berlingo.../

The Volkswagen Caddy is much more refined than the Citroen and better to drive, but will cost more to fix and run over the long term. The Volkswagen also has a few well-known faults, with EGR (Exhaust Gas Recirculation) valves a known weak point. DSG automatic gearboxes have a poor reputation for reliability too and a replacement can cost as much as £6000. For more on the Caddy, see: vans.honestjohn.co.uk/van-reviews/volkswagen/caddy...0
