Ford refused to replace the DMF in our Ford Transit under warranty - why is this?

Our two year old Ford Transit Connect has just had to have a new dual mass fly wheel in it. Ford refused to change it under warranty because they said there were burn marks on the fly wheel, and it just cost us over £1000. The friction plate was perfect when I asked for a picture.

Burn marks on a fly wheel are - more often than not - caused by abuse. And by that I mean riding the clutch or launching the van off under hard acceleration. However, it can also be caused by improper installation. If your van has a full service history with the dealer, I'd complain and push for a free of charge replacement. If that doesn't work, take your complaint to Ford direct.
