After having the alternator on our Hyundai Santa Fe replaced, our brakes failed - could this be linked?

We had an alternator replaced recently on our Hyundai Sante Fe. This morning the brakes failed completely and I crashed into another car. Brake fluid levels are fine and there was no warning at all. Could this brake failure be linked to the alternator replacement?
On diesel engines, the alternator and the brake vacuum pump are often integrated into the same module and this is the case with the Santa Fe. If you Google Image search 'Hyundai Santa Fe brake vacuum pump' you can see this for yourself. I guess they replaced the alternator and forgot to connect the brake vacuum line, or didn't tighten it up sufficiently.
