The garage suggests my Skoda Fabia needs a new EGR - what do you think?

I own a 2004 Skoda Fabia 1.4 and I drive about 3000 miles per year. For the last three years the engine management light has stayed on, fault showing as EGR valve. This has happened three times and been cleared each time via OBD port. The car runs fine but the last time it happened, about two months ago, the garage told me it probably needs a new EGR valve. What do you think?
The garage is right. Though petrol, this nasty engine is notorious for clogging up its EGR valve. It can be cleaned (with care) once, but is so flimsy that the next time it clogs you need a new one.
