The paintwork on my Mercedes-Benz SLK is lifting - should the dealer offer a FoC replacement car while it is resprayed?

I purchased a 2013 Mercedes-Benz SLK, in immaculate condition, last April from a main dealer for £20,250 with 8000 miles on the clock. The garage informed me in December that the vehicle needed a complete respray due to a problem with the paint, a three week task but cannot undertake the respray until June. I'm not happy and have emailed the garage who said they will look for another car of same age and condition but want me to pay for the replacement vehicle. We are now over two months on and no further forward with my car looking shabbier as each day passes. Is this fair?
Is it red? If so this is a common problem. However, you are legally entitled to a like for like replacement. You are not liable to give the dealer any additional profit. If he does not accede to your demands, consult a specialist solicitor. Law here: www.honestjohn.co.uk/faq/consumer-rights/
