Volkswagen won't refund me for my broken EGR after the emissions fix,, where do I stand?

I have a 2010 Volkswagen Golf 2.0 TDI , only done 45,000 miles. The EGR value has failed twice, once at 2 and a half years and again last August, a week after the the emissions fix. I had it replaced at a local garage as it was about £130 cheaper then Volkswagen. I rang Volkswagen head office and they would not give me a refund. What now?
Not if you have had the car repaired independently. Quite a few lowish mileage owners have had the post NOx fix clogged EGR replaced FoC by the dealer, subsidised by Volkswagen, but obviously Volkswagen will not pay for an independent repair. You could sue in Small Claims.
