Replacing a van with a 4x4

I want to replace my Vivaro van with a 4x4. It must be diesel automatic with good fuel economy. I frequently go up north for a week to stay in and decorate properties, so I need a large capacity. I do not want a people carrier. I have about £17000

Automatic and 4x4 means fuel economy simply can't be very good. Officially, a BMW X3 2.0d auto is good, but in reality 40.9mpg. A Honda CR-V 2.2 i-DTEC auto is 36.9mpg and a Mazda CX-5 2.2 Skyactiv D auto is 35.9mpg.
