My Ford Mondeo Estate brake pedal goes rock hard while I am driving resulting in ( for a second) brake failure

My Ford Mondeo Estate brake pedal goes rock hard while I am driving resulting in ( for a second) brake failure. I took it to my local garage who replaced the vacuum?

After a few days the same thing happened, so I took it back and he replaced a flexible pipe that he found had split. That has also failed to find the fault and I am thinking that he has no idea what the problem is.

It is very dangerous as I ended up in the middle of a roundabout due to this problem. Please help?

Diesels have a vacuum pump to create the vacuum for the brake servo assistance. So actually all you lost was the power assistance to the brakes, not the brakes themselves. Obviously, get it to a more competent mechanic.
