After being caught speeding at 35mph in a 30mph limit, is there a way of avoiding points being put on my licence?
At age 73 and after 57 years without a traffic violation I finally hit the headlines with an "alleged excess speed offence" of 35mph in 30mph zone recorded by a mobile camera device in a leafy suburb of Swansea. Are there any arguments not get points on my licence?

35 in a 30 should qualify you for a Speed Awareness Course instead of points on your licence. These usually cost more than the standard £60 penalty, but involve no points, no reason to inform your insurer, and no reason for your insurer to capitalise on the situation.
